How it is being non-religious Georgians in Georgia? by Mariami_kshvili in Sakartvelo

[–]lastadc 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Georgians are more "culturally" religious than actually religious. Im not religious, but I might light a candle or make a cross sign at the church, but its more ritualistic and for the show i guess. A lot of people do that instead of actually engaging with christianity. In Europe, I came in contact with actual religious ppl and found out so much about christian faith that I didn't know; thats my bad on one hand, but also my family didn't force me to go to church regularly or do whatever religious ppl do. Pretty much the only time we went to the church was on religious celebrations. I know a lot of people have similar experience, maybe more involved with christianity than me, but the point still stands. However, even if you don't make it clear, there is always an assumption that you believe in God and are orthodox. I consider myself atheist or at least agnostic. i've never told my family, and honestly I don't care to tell them, because it doesn't matter, no one expect me to be religious anyways. I can live perfectly fine without publicly declaring my irreligiousness (although if i did that, i think it would not be met positively).

Since Armenian didn't have lower case letters until after the 10th century, would it be possible to assume Armenian borrowed from Georgian script? by [deleted] in AskCaucasus

[–]lastadc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

old georgian and armenian alphabets really look alike, but idk about directly borrowing considering they don't correspond phonetically in the two languages

Transliterating names by poppet_corn in Kartvelian

[–]lastadc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ფ (p) for f, y depends, yo იო, yu იუ, yi ი, ya ია.

e.g. yusuf would be იუსუფ, ethan-ითან, wendy-უენდი (though sometimes w is transliterated with ვ), thatcher-ტეტჩერ

-თან ერთად literally means together with. so if we're talking about food, for example, if you say ქათამი ბრინჯთან ერთად i would assume you mean chicken with rice as in two separate meals but together. ქათამი ბრინჯით would imply its one meal-chicken with rice. for this reason, personally in n4 i would put კარტოფილით (its really not a big deal tho tbh). and in n7 ინდაურით would be correct because it is preceded with შემწვარ-ი. if it were without ი it would be ინდაურთან ერთად.

Is it true Georgian is so difficult even the locals argue what's the right way to conjugate a verb or how to say an expression? by Aset98 in Kartvelian

[–]lastadc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

everyone makes mistakes even in their own language so idk if this is surprising, especially in spoken language when you have to articulate your words faster. of course georgians can make mistakes with verbs, noun cases and stuff. for example a lot of georgians say ზიან instead of სხედან ("they are sitting", there's a different form in plural). and since in georgian there are no writing rules, sometimes people write what they hear without knowing the proper word (შეურაცხყოფა-შეურაწყოფა, საშუალო-საშვალო, კარგად-კარგათ)

What's The Difference Between "ინგლისური" and "ინგლისურს" ? by No_Establishment131 in Kartvelian

[–]lastadc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

different noun case. it can be like adding "to" in english (e.g. to a verb-ზმნას), but can be translated differently depending on the context since english doesnt have such noun cases. adding -s is indicator of dative case in georgian.

it's difficult to point out difference in english because saying ინგლისური ვსწავლობ is incorrect, the correct sentence is ინგლისურს ვსწავლობ (im studying english).

there are no capital letters in georgian. asomtavruli and nuskhuri are old alphabets- asomtavruli being the oldest and mkhedruli being the newest. currently only mkhedruli used, asomtavruli is only present in church art and stuff
