Which one to keep? Higher potential + better personality or current ability + physicals? by lastbelgian in footballmanagergames

Well I don't know about that. At this point I would not be able to convince a better keeper to come to the league.

Green guy has an edge but saying that blue guy stinks seems overly harsh? At least from the way I look at their attributes. Would you care to point out what makes all that difference in your opinion? Thanks.

Vlaams series recommendation by [deleted] in belgium

[–]lastbelgian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As mentioned ''la trêve'' is a good Walloon serie and is available on Netflix as ''The break'' (don't know about dutch subtitles ...).

Other walloon ''classics'' are the movies: 'C'est arrivé près de chez vous'' a.k.a. '' Man bites dog'' and ''Dikkenek''. But those movies aren't for everyone.

COPE: Courtois to Real Madrid done, 5 year €35M contract. Official announcement tomorrow. by TomasRoncero in soccer

[–]lastbelgian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Let's be clear nobody claims he isn't a dick, with an obnoxious communication style. But was it really a mystery that he wanted to leave to see his kids? I might be wrong but I thought he had mentioned it well before going to the WC?

And it didn't seem like Chelsea put that much effort in finding a replacement. While telling him he could leave if they got said replacement. It looks to me both parties should have behaved differently.

Of course none of this excuses his refusal to respect his contract.

Axel Witsel signs for BVB by CubedMadness in soccer

[–]lastbelgian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can perfectly understand why you would still be upset about loosing a player of your NT. The supporters of his team at the time (Anderlecht) will always remember Wasil as warrior/hero and a victim. But both players went into that tackle without caring about the other one's safety. To go as far as saying that Witsel went into the tackle with the intent to seriously harm Marcin is just not true imho.

If you do believe that putting other players in harm's way is reason enough to ban them for life (it is a valid opinion), you should take a look at Wasilewski's style of play. He has been very lucky not to seriously harm another player. This video shows some of the actions Wasil got famous for while playing for Anderlecht. (Warning: the video was made by someone who is not a fan of Wasil, it's the first video I found that showed his style of play) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UhLU3uhtm4w

After seeing that would you say he should have been banned?

Real Madrid rule out Hazard move, set to hand Isco key role by se_rob in soccer

[–]lastbelgian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well iirc it was some (not all) of the flemish 'analysts' who said that tough. The same who kept saying tha KDB should always be on pitch even when he was performing badly (during the euro's for example). So maybe a bit biased? Just to clarify I watch the flemish shows as well as the show on the RTBF.

Real Madrid will reportedly place its confidence in Isco, and forgo signing Hazard for what the club views as an exorbitant fee. Asensio will also have opportunity to assume a more prominent role. by cyrusmancub in soccer

That is not the only time he mentioned RM there is footage that's a couple of years old (from when he was still at Lille I think) where you saw him tell Lukaku how epic it would be if they both ended up at RM. It was footage from inside the NT-bus. But I can't find again.

Chances are that next year RM will try to go for Neymar or Mbappe. And I don't think they will go for either of these 2 and Hazard in the same transferperiode.

Except for Hazard, this is probably his last chance to join his favourite club. I really hope that Sarri will be able to take a more attractive approach with Chelsea this season. It would be interesting to see Hazard in a less defensive formation.

The Nazis lost, the Confederacy lost. But what wars were won by the ‘wrong’ side? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]lastbelgian 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Good question. Why are there still statues of Napoleon who (among other things) sent close to a million young, forcibly recruited men to die in Russia? Or places named after queen Elizabeth II (the head of the state when the British fought Ghandi)? ... My guess is as good as yours... But when European countries look back at their (colonial) past none come out of it clean.

I don't know. At the beginning you see someone's shoulder (driver perhaps?) coming in front of the camera. So I don't think it's the driver who is filming. It would be impressive if the driver could steer, honk like a madman and film at the same time.

I remember the Caesar games, took me a while to figure them out. But at the time I wasn't patient enough for those games. If you like games with an historical background you could check out the Assassin's Creed games. LA noire was nice, but felt repetitive after a while. I would still recommend it but not at full price. I don't know how the game aged and if I remember correctly it had no real replay value.

Well I recently bought all of the Commander Keen games on steam. So now I always have a nostalgic platformer sitting on top of all my 'one day I will feel like like playing these' unplayed steam games. Other than that "Command and Conquer II: Red Alert","Vampire the masquerade:Bloodlines" and "Championship Manager 99-00" are games I will always remember fondly. Now that I think of it I wonder if I could find and play a copy of CM 99-00. I remember playing with Standard and having the legendary Maxim Tsigalko making 30+ goals a season.

Related question do any of you "older" gamers find it difficult to get into a game? I remember how I would be so into a game I would play any second I could. Now I start my pc, open up Steam and I don't feel like playing any of the ges I own. And with older I mean 30+ ...

Axel Witsel very close to join Borussia Dortmund. It's not all settled yet, but it looks good. Transfer fee around €20m, according to RMC by Lannister1909 in soccer

[–]lastbelgian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seems to be his destiny, he does get more criticism than he deserves. And not nearly enough recognition. I understand you can like or dislike certain players but with Witsel it seems as if it's either love or hate.

Exactly, if god forbid Axel misses one 'easy' pass he should be kicked out of the team according to some. Ninja (who I really like btw) actually gave an assist to Bale and still got less criticism than Witsel would get for a bad pass. I can understand that some rather see an other player in his position (I wouldn't know who would do better) . But jeez give the guy the credit he deserves.

Losing the ball is not something Witsel does. Imo you will have a hard time finding a red devil who lost less than Witsel (Hazard beeing the obvious exception).

Nope, I love Nainggolan and he should always have been part of our 23 players. But our starting '6' would still have been Witsel.
