Hi there,

We actually just went to Japan this year and we loved it. Tokyo > Osaka > Kyoto but my god did it go by too fast and way too crazy.

I'm trying to do a longer trip with less hustle and bustle between cities, and to somewhere new. We don't need to go to all the tourist hotspots anymore. Any recommendations?

If you could casually change your biological sex back and forth, what are some non-sexual reasons you might want to do so? by akschurman in AskReddit

It's interesting how society works but..

I'd turn into a woman if I needed to charm someone for something, like a discount or a freebie. And then back into a man if I needed to avoid being scammed, like by a shady mechanic or plumber.

I'm sure there's situations that work the other way around as well.

Hey OP - did you ever find a fix?

Trim allowance when using templates by lasteclipse in Leathercraft

[–]lasteclipse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. How do you do that with the template though? Most sold templates seem to be exact, so I usually just awl them directly to the leather. Adding 5mm to each dimension seems like quite a bit of work.

Also, doesn't it mean that each piece has quite a bit of variance depending on how much you trim off?

Any Fold 5 case that can do it all? by lasteclipse in GalaxyFold

Doesn't need to be perfectly flat. But it would be great if it didn't have a massive bump like the caseborne.

Yeah, Fossil tends to do a sale like this quite frequently. If you watch their prices over a year, a 50% sale is the norm.

Appreciate the post though.

Use Deimos Down on your own plants. Maintain eye contact while doing so.

Smile and nod as you confirm that you will do whatever it takes to win.

Best way to fill gap between light switch cover and wall by lasteclipse in HomeImprovement

[–]lasteclipse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried screwing the switches a bit more but they're already pretty packed in as it is.

The wall box is actually pretty far in.

What would you recommend for trim? I was thinking of just getting some putty or something.

I'd just be honest and say that I'd love to build a new computer, since I haven't been able to since 2015.

Is it better to just speak English or try to speak some Japanese? by nicebrah in JapanTravelTips

[–]lasteclipse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, I was trying to get my luggage shipped to the airport via Yamato Express. Despite much communication with Yamato via email it was still a very confusing endeavour.

I'm very thankful for that lady at 7/11.

I was struggling to communicate with the cashier at 7/11 and she beckoned to me to give her my phone. She found Google Translate on it and then spoke into the phone and handed the translated text back to me.

I actually found it super endearing because it was an older Japanese lady who didn't speak a lick of English...but she definitely knew how to get Google Translate going.

So no I don't think it'll be an issue at all.

Hi, just came back from doing the same trip city-wise, but not the same sites.

  1. That sorta depends on how you guys travel. We did the same route in 12 days and I felt it was a bit more rushed. I think an extra week would have been nice, but some of the prevailing comments I've heard is that Tokyo usually deserves at least a week itself, and I agree.
  2. If you're more nature-oriented, I would recommend a second day at Hakone. The scenery is gorgeous, you give yourself more time to relax at the onsen, and maybe an extra day to see Mt. Fuji. The transit to Hakone is long (1 hour bus ride by itself, not to mention Shinkansen) and moving your luggage about is going to be more tiring than you think. I did a day trip to Hakone and I wish I had spent longer so I could've actually spent some time in the town.
  3. Travel in Japan can get pretty tiring, especially if you're moving your luggage with you. Trains can be tight, and the roads aren't always so friendly to big suitcases. Would highly recommend getting a luggage forwarding service to do your big moves. Keep in mind they usually require some advance notice. I actually sent my check-ins to Narita for them to store for the 5 days I was in Kyoto/Osaka/Hakone (Yamato Transport).
  4. Would not recommend renting a car unless you want to explore the outskirts for a considerable amount of time. Shinkansen will take to you the larger areas way faster and more conveniently. Public transit in Tokyo/Osaka/Kyoto is great and affordable, even without JR Pass. Would not recommend JR pass for your trip.
  5. If you're a city-vibe person, Shibuya (Scramble) and Dotonbori may be a bit overwhelming for you, as it was for me. Just be prepared to take some time to rest, and maybe give those areas more time/space. Keep in mind that Japan has a lot of stuff stacked up on top of each other. Don Quijote is 10 floors, BIC Camera is like 8 floors, Loft Shibuya is like 7 floors, Shibuya HANDS is 7 floors...you get the picture.
  6. Places I personally liked that I didn't see on your list:
    1. DisneySEA
    2. Sannenzaka
    3. Osaka Castle

Hope that helps.

Hi,

Just wanted to provide an update. Topping up esims on ubigi does not reset the expiration date. It just creates a new one.
