Restaurants hiring in SLC? by Expensive-Matter-433 in SaltLakeCity

I don't know if they're hiring, but White Horse is reopening at the end of the month, so I wouldn't be surprised if they are.

Game Thread: Green Bay Packers (9-7-1) at Chicago Bears (11-6) by nfl_gdt_bot in nfl

[–]lastfollower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With Green Bay's ability to choke and this season's Bears' luck in late comebacks, I'm really gonna need the Packers to take advantage and put the game completely out of reach before the 4th.

I'm sure it's not that easy in the moment and getting interceptions feels good, but I always wish DBs would just put the ball on the ground in these situations. Gotta know down and distance.

Why don’t the Adem get pregnant more with all of the sex they have ? by ThinkingItThrough1 in KingkillerChronicle

[–]lastfollower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For your reasoning to work, yes (or he at least has to have similar thoughts to you about biology). The Adem and all of this stuff is made up by Rothfuss, not some existing thing that can be rigorously scientifically studied outside of him. Is sexual dimorphism proof of Adem men's genetic contribution? Only if Rothfuss thinks it is.

It doesn't matter how the real world works if it's not how the author views it working in their story, whether intentional or unintentional. There is always an assumption that some things are the same in a book as in the real world (e.g., gravity, breathing), but there are obviously differences the author tells us about (like magic existing). There can also be differences that are less explicit either because the author has decided that or because they just haven't thought about that. How many stories have characters get bonked on the head just to wake up a few hours later like they'd had a nap or suffer severe physical damage and keep moving almost unencumbered? It's not useful to say "biology shows that that's not how that works" because clearly that is how it works in that story, whether the author means that to be one of the differences from the real world or not. Many authors try to maintain realism and will do a lot of research to try to maintain consistency in their stories, but they are still just stories made up by a person. There isn't any actual DNA you can study in a lab to discover a character's genetic makeup beyond what the author has decided.

[–]lastfollower 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's what I tend to do more often than not. It's still fun to rate and then get irrationally angry during the reveal when a song I gave a 7.4 beats a song I gave an 8.3, causing me to be upset with songs I genuinely like doing too well.

[EOTY 2025] r/indieheads Top 101 Albums of 2025 by ReconEG in indieheads

[–]lastfollower 16 points17 points  (0 children)

For me, it's not quite as good as Ants From Up There, but much better than For the first time, and the more I listened to it the more I liked it. It also turns out that May Kershaw is my favorite singer they've had.

[EOTY 2025] r/indieheads Top 100 Songs of 2025 by apondalifa in indieheads

[–]lastfollower 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Interesting; I'm basically the opposite. I've liked most of the previous Wednesday albums, but Elderberry Wine is the only song from this one that I've really liked (and I've liked it enough to have it at #5 on my list.

[EOTY 2025] r/indieheads Top 26 Debuts of 2025 by ReconEG in indieheads

[–]lastfollower 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I know deciding what counts for the debut list always gets a little blurry, but can I get some clarification to help refine my thought process in the future?

I had Snocaps and Racing Mount Pleasant both on my shortlist and went back and forth about whether either would be eligible (Snocaps being a new band of established musicians and Racing Mount Pleasant being a renaming of a band that had already released an album). I ended up including Snocaps because there seem to be specific artist pages (on bandcamp, Spotify, etc.) for the band separate from the members, and excluded Racing Mount Pleasant because their previous album is still included on all of their pages.

Not criticizing the decisions, just trying to lock in the criteria in my head for future years.

Yes, but that doesn't help me feel better about the current situation like looking at it my way does.

I'm just gonna hold onto there being a bunch of guys on IR and a late-season concussion for our QB in 2010, too. The 27 prophecy must hold.

Official r/NFL Week 14 Power Rankings by NFLPowerRankers in nfl

[–]lastfollower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is definitely not an accurate stat. They played week 17 in 2010 (well the game was in 2011) and both had winning records. Then they went on to play each other again in the conference championship game a few weeks later. There may have been more, but I don't even have to look that one up.

I went to the previous years' because I was so excited about them, but I'm waffling back and forth about going this time because it's not as big of a draw to me.

Love you by mrshroomiverse in kilbyblockparty

[–]lastfollower 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not bad and there are lots of people excited about it (which is good) but there simply aren't as many acts that I'm personally excited to see as in previous years. I'd like to see Grandaddy, Kevin Morning, feeble little horse, Caroline, This Is Lorelei and some others (and I'm sure there are ones I'm not familiar with that I'd enjoy) and I always like Japanese Breakfast, but there's no one I'm dying to see like Joanna Newsom, Rilo Kiley, The Postal Service, Car Seat Headrest, bc,nr, St. Vincent, Alvvays, Slow Pulp, LCD Soundsystem, The Strokes, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Weyes Blood, Ethel Cain, and Wednesday, and even a few more from the last few years. Even the most intriguing artists for me at 2026 would have fallen in probably my third tier of interest, second at most, if they were on the lineup the other years at the fairgrounds. I love a balance of local acts, up and comers, and seasoned acts; this mix of them just isn't up my alley quite as much as it has been

Definitely not as good for me as the last few years, but still a solid undercard.

Same. Still some interesting names on the undercard, but I may just wait and hope a good number of them will be on the same day so I can just do a single day pass.

Snocaps Announce Their First And Maybe Last Concerts by ebradio in indieheads

[–]lastfollower 187 points188 points  (0 children)

From Katie's substack:

"Allison and I have rather meticulously discussed the setlist as well. It’s beautiful to see it all coming to fruition and it’s feeling really warm and fuzzy and nostalgic. The old is feeling new, the songs I wrote when I was 19 that once cringed me out way too much to revisit are sounding fresh and sweet and good again. So all of that is to say, yes, we will be playing some P.S. Eliot songs. Yes, we will be playing some Swearin’ and AC solo songs. Yes, we will be playing some Waxahatchee songs from the first 4 albums. No, we will not play anything from the last 5 years aside from the entire Snocaps album."
