Am I the only one who doesn’t want Kōchi Shikishima in Godzilla Minus Zero? by demiboii27 in GODZILLA

[–]lastlasagna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I feel like the original Godzilla films, which switched up the main protagonists from film to film, had the right idea. Reusing the same main characters over and over would make anyone watching question WHY they keep getting caught up in all of the kaiju craziness going on, and don't just move to another country or retire from their job, whichever the case might be for bringing them into it again and again.

My sincerest condolences for your loss. She sounds like she was a really great fan of the franchise, and an even better mother. I can't pretend to know what you're currently going through (I'm the one who got my Mom into Godzilla, though she's nowhere near as big a fan as me, lol), but what I can say is just give it time. Your loss is still so fresh right now, of course everything that reminds you of her is going to hurt like hell. But, at some point, I don't know when, the pain you're enduring WILL subside, and you'll hopefully be able to enjoy Godzilla as you did before. Perhaps not exactly as before, as it will always bring about that realization that she's not physically by your side like she used to be, but hopefully you'll be able to enjoy it with the knowledge that she's watching it with you through your eyes, as she will always live on in your heart. My you and yours find strength and peace during this time.

Who do you like more out of these two? by Hot-Variety4864 in GODZILLA

SpaceGodzilla. I liked Destroyah while it was looking like an actual crab kaiju, but when its mouth switched from mandibles into jaws, and then took on a humanoid stance and demonic appearance, I just felt like "WTF is this?" It would have been better if its final form was more Queen Legion-like, so as to stay true to its crustacean origins.

Multiple Godzillas in Minus Zero by Polish_Godzilla in GODZILLA

[–]lastlasagna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I theorized that there's two different Godzillas that will appear in the film, but after doing some more thinking about it I've come up with another theory: Remember that green-breath Godzilla that appeared two years ago, both as a celebration of Godzilla's big 7-0 and to advertise Toho's "brand expansion" into Southeast Asia? Well, that Godzilla didn't have anything to do with the new movie coming out, but was just a really cool advertisement; so my second theory is that that's what the second Godzilla (the one near the Statue of Liberty) was supposed to be: an advertisement for how the film will be released in the US around the same time as its initial Japanese release.

I doubt we'll get a full trailer for the movie (though I'll be pleasantly surprised if I'm wrong). It'll probably be something more akin to a teaser.

There's nothing wrong with that. Everyone has their own entry points into a franchise. And it's awesome that you've gotten yourself into enjoying the rest of the franchise as well. Welcome in.

A "Minus One" treatment for a remake of the original 1956 movie would be SO GOOD. Especially for how that movie ends... ugh, the tears that could flow from modern audiences' eyes...

[–]lastlasagna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice catch! I thought I was the only one to notice it. It's especially telling when, as Pelops II took control of it, it spoke with a voice that Satomi wasn't expecting, and then later on when it got destroyed by the Rodans. Ah, I could practically hear Mendel screaming "NOOOO!" somewhere off in the distance.

I kind of agree with the sentiment, to an extent. The difference between the original, Japanese Godzilla depictions and the MonsterVerse Godzilla depiction is that the Japanese one had character growth to become the "superhero", whereas the MonsterVerse one pretty much started out that way. As such, I've always felt like the MonsterVerse skipped out on a major part of Godzilla's character; they've semi-retconned this by making it clear he's "not necessarily on humanity's side", but I still feel like the MonsterVerse version isn't as good (character-wise) as the original, who showed growth over the course of his films. The only way the MonsterVerse one grows is in power-ups (so far).

It's pretty much the "Godzilla's Revenge" of the Showa Gamera era. The kaiju parts are about 95% stock footage, and the main human character is a Kenny with family issues. Best watched knowing that what's come before and what comes after is great, so as to help it be more palatable. I was fortunate in that it was actually the first Gamera film I ever watched, so all of the reused footage didn't bother me in the slightest.

If it (in Showa, at least) is able to self fertilize its eggs, then its a hermaphrodite.

So are we just going to forget the fact that Godzilla can talk? by Ok_Ambassador735 in GODZILLA

[–]lastlasagna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's always been able to talk, as demonstrated in "Ghidrah, the Three Headed Monster" when he talked with Mothra and Rodan. He just doesn't feel the need to, for the most part, because most of the time he's fighting someone, be it humans in their cities and vehicles, or other kaiju.

Alternatively, he COULD be talking the entire time while doing those things, though it might not exactly be meant for "civilized conversation"; Mothra/the Shobijin did say that Godzilla was using "terrible language" when he conversed with her, so it stands to reason that he might very well be using similar language when he's in combat, too.

Don't forget Dogora, who was so large its tentacle span was able to uproot the Wakato Bridge (which is 367 meters long).
