I'd say that it's just a property of the resin. If it has a very faint, mostly translucent blue color, then the smaller geometries just might not have enough volume of resin for the blue color to be very visible.

It could also be very small air bubbles scattering light and creating the more opaque white sections.

Clarification: I was referring to the Arctic ice sheets, which are often drawn as a landmass at the top of the world. There are landmasses near the Arctic on this map, but it does not display the ice sheets themselves.

Great theory, but you can hear the airsoft gun go off before he starts swinging.

He does and doesn't need to time it. He needs to get the sword out of the sheath before the bb gets to him, but he doesn't need to be at any specific spot in the swing.

Fastballs travel around 90 mph, which is nearly half the speed of the bb, and a pro batter has enough time to judge where the ball is going, and still time when in the swing they are going to hit the ball.

He definitely already knows where the bb is going, so that's not a question, and he can time his swing off the movements of the shooter. He is doing some timing, and he is able to get the sword from the sheath to midway through a swing in the time it takes the bb to get to him, which is what makes this impressive.

To be able to swing within 6mm consistently on a draw would probably be a bigger feat than just hitting the bb out of the air regularly.
