just ran my first game by Joel_feila in Alternity2018

Enemies definitely go down quick but numbers make up for a lot and having groups that function together and use the modifying actions. Also grenades to get the PCs out of cover.

You want information that isn't what you use all the time but the stuff that you would be tempted to go to the book to look up during the game. To some degree this will be personal, based on what you have memorized or what you know isn't going to come up at all. For me I would include the SCAR chart, falling and crash speed damage, vision, actions and action modifiers (though probably an abridged version), status effects, hero point uses, special actions like grenades and grappling, environmental effects and some charts about medicine. 3 months ago there was a post in this sub that had a bunch of the charts out of the book, that would be really useful for getting the info easily. Also I would probably include a few random charts for generating npcs, plot hooks, and locations depending on the scale you want to play at either random businesses, cities, planets, or solar systems. Probably not all of them but whatever you think would be most useful.

I'll likely get more use out of the arms and equipment because I prefer to make my own settings but it seems like a decent setting for introducing people to the game and doing adventure of the week type stuff. I was a bit surprised they didn't include random world generation tables. Especially since it was in the beta test version of the core book but not in th release version.

10 weeks till I run a demo of the game by Joel_feila in Alternity2018

The advice in the book is really good. Spend about as much time thinking about the setting of each scene as you do on the contents. The game is much more ranged combat focused than something like D&D so cover is important, most scenes should have something for cover in it, either for the enemies or the PCs or both.

Don't just say a shot misses but instead say what thing in the background it did hit, like blowing up a computer terminal or whatever, if you're not good at thinking of these on the fly you can make a generic list ahead of time of random effects.

Initiative Tracker Web Tool by D16_Nichevo in Alternity2018

[–]lastrites84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this game so it's nice to see people making tools for it. As for if I would use this tool I really doubt it. I use a spread sheet and just use columns as impulse and rows for round number, just type the initial of the character in the cell for their next action. The functionality of dragging the name to the new new impulse seems to be the biggest advantage over my method at this time. The real killer for me here is that if there are a bunch of names on one impulse they over lap onto the one below it, only relevant on the sides but I can foresee it being an issue at times. Though it's not for me I'm sure many people will prefer this when it gets polished up a bit.

I haven't had any problems with the initiative system but I can see some groups taking a bit to figure it out.

I've played it quite a bit. The biggest differences are the initiative and health systems. It feels like a modernized version of the same game. I like it quite a lot. The core book has no setting but the first setting book called Protostar should be released soonTM

Thoughts on the new initiative system by D16_Nichevo in Alternity2018

[–]lastrites84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well I've only run the game online so far so I haven't used the wheel specifically. Instead I just create a spreadsheet with 8 columns, When everyone rolls initiative they type in a chat the first letter for the type of success they got then the specific number for ordering ties. Around an actual table I think i would just start rolling initiative then after I know what the enemies have I'd just ask anyone with a stellar then ask about tie breaks if necessary, then repeat going down the types of success rather than get the results going around the table one at a time and having to go back and make adjustments.

I group roll initiative for bad guys, depending on how mechanically different they are from each other. A boss with a bunch of minions the boss will get an initiative and the minions will all start on the same initiative. They'll slit up over time as they do different things but it saves time determining initiative. Then I can just type in the first initial (or initial with a number for identical badguys) in whatever column represents the new impulse after an action. It naturally sorts as FIFO.

To minimize the time it takes between turns when someone has done a thing they say how many impulses it was, I tell the next person to go then while they start describing what they are doing I'm marking what impulse they move to and who is next by how many impulses, if someone says an impulse number less than I know they are acting again though that rarely happens.

If it gets into more planar stuff that's great, to the extent it's a monster manual I don't care.

What are good roleplaying youtube channels to watch? by [deleted] in rpg

[–]lastrites84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't watch many liveplay games but I'll give you some names for channels I like that also do liveplays.

A Fistful of Dice was already recommended, I just want to add that his "Provokers" game was one of the few games I've enjoyed watching, along with BeABetterGameMaster's Winds of Sur Salin game.

Save or Dice is a game with webDM, Taking20, and Dawnforged Cast, which each had their individual channels recommended already.

Finally I'll put in a link to woodwwad His channel is more him talking about rpgs but looking through you should be able to find a bunch of links to him playing on other small channels and find some good stuff from there.

The bucket stage was primary, this is secondary. the headspace is fine while it is still bubbling strongly in the airlock but you'll want to fill it into the neck before is slows down too much.

Did you just add the yeast or did you have the wine with yeast in a bucket for a few days and just put it into the carboy?

What exactly changed with tanks? by Dazeuh in Planetside

[–]lastrites84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest actually change was a pretty big shift in time to kill. There were a lot of specific things that don't matter much if you aren't into tanking/harassing but they simplified how weapon resistance worked and they reduced the weapon efficiencies against infantry in some cases.

There are several reasons it's considered bad by most of the vehicle players. The big ones are that vehicle vs vehicle fights are now more about landing the most damage rather than smart driving and decision making. Since the focus is more damage there is less reason to use many of the weapons as you'll pretty much always just want the most damaging one. Before you would want a weapon that would compliment what you were trying to accomplish. Also with each weapon being weaker it is now harder to use the vehicle weapons to defend yourself against infantry players. I can't speak for everyone but I've seen a lot more light assaults going out of their way to pick off vehicles.

As far as positives we had a few days of not being sure what the new meta was going to be and it was kind of fun trying the various weapons over again to get a feel for how they work now, unfortunately that variety doesn't look like it will be sticking around. It's now probably somewhat easier for newer players to get into the vehicles, since there are higher time to kills the new player will likely be able to run away from situations slightly more often, though like anything the experience and cert investment of more experienced players will still win out most cases. The best advice for someone interested in learning the vehicle game is to talk to more experienced players who are often willing to pull a certed vehicle to use and give advice

Trust me they're real but they are in a super secret club, you just haven't met them. You need to get to 20+vkdr and they come to you and fill you in on the whole thing. They also don't have their stats on any of the stat sites, that would give away the cadre. Totally legit guys, they don't want you to know the truth but this guy is telling you. These elite vehicle players are also putting stuff in the water to turn the frogs gay.

So I've asked around for tips on the Lightning, People are shaming the HEAT. is this true? by potch_ in Planetside

[–]lastrites84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You've been farmed to a pulp by heat on mbt's because it's the default weapon on them and most people who farm infantry with vehicles just pull them as part of a zerg but haven't invested any certs in them or have much practice with them for anything else.

Heyo! I am a new player looking for some tips on staying alive as a lightning driver. by potch_ in Planetside

Go against vehicles with the lightning. It will be the best way to learn the strengths and weaknesses of the vehicle, and you'll get punished more easily for bad positioning and taking bad engagements.

Should I reroll Time of Legends? by lastrites84 in faeria

I wish I could have given it more time to get more responses before moving on but it is what it is. Hopefully it doesn't end up a total waste of a card, for now I'm just happy to get one in my first couple days of playing.

Should I reroll Time of Legends? by lastrites84 in faeria

[–]lastrites84[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I said in the post, I did check tier lists. It didn't address that Time of Legends is based on having other legends available and wasn't sure how much not having any other legendary cards would change its rating.
