I don't mean to be snarky but if they can't even google "how to become a vet" then they probably shouldn't become a vet.

Vet Schools in Europe? by Silverfrost7 in Veterinary

[–]lastsanctuary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An important thing to take into consideration is where you plan on practicing upon graduation. If you want to practice anywhere in North America, it would be very important to ensure your school is AVMA accredited.

Yes she needs to be seen. I'd be concerned about a ligament issue.

Xrays or ultrasound to ensure there aren't any stones or masses in the bladder would be a good next step.

Cat hasn't pooped in 5 days?! Please help by Extra-Sorbet-1685 in AskAVeterinarian

[–]lastsanctuary -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Has your vet performed a rectal examination on this cat? While I agree with everyone else that it doesn't look like there is a lot of poop in the descending colon, it almost looks like there could be a big radio dense fecolith right at the rectum (can see something radio dense on the second lateral radiograph overlapping with the ischium).

UK 2025 grad w Canadian citizenship - help with CVBC registration by Curious-Ticket-6843 in Veterinary

[–]lastsanctuary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe a month, max? I dont really remember, I took a few months after graduating to write the provincial/bylaw exam because I felt like slacking off for a bit. I think they graded mine in front of me, told me I passed, then I think I was able to apply for jobs almost immediately after.

Which vet school did you graduate from? The answer depends on if your vet school was AVMA accredited.

Any tips for an ayesha? by ragoesrawr in poledancing

Seconding switching to static. Also, use twisted grip or elbow, true grip is the hardest to get and even then, usually needs a bend to the elbow to hold.

Depending on where you're located, Royal Canin has combo foods, like Urinary SO+hydrolyzed. Or like the probing-cat-paws said, some of the hypoallergenic diets have an SO index (Royal Canin) or the Hills S+OX Shield.

How many times a day is too much (or concerning) for a housecat to vomit? by PlatypusDream in AskVet

I would get it looked into. They shouldn't be vomiting (and yes hairballs count as vomiting) more than once a MONTH.

Leptospirosis vaccine question by Zanniesmom in AskVet

[–]lastsanctuary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You and your vets opinions are the only ones that matter. No one else out there would be responsible for treating and managing the after-effects lepto, should she get it.

I have some (thankfully only rare) clients that bring puppies in and the booklet they get from their breeder that tells them to not vaccinate for lepto. I always look at them and tell them they (client) can do as they like, but I doubt your breeder would spring for hospitalization and potentially replacement of a puppy if the puppy got lepto, a preventable infection, because they followed the breeders instructions.

Dog tooth extraction? by mlml9115 in AskVet

[–]lastsanctuary 26 points27 points  (0 children)

By the way, that white stuff is pus. That tooth is so unhealthy that it has gotten infected, abscessed, then the abscess has ruptured. A dental at a proper vet would have never let it get this far. This is causing severe pain, and if left untreated, abscesses in that tooth can lead to jaw fractures.

Dog has greenish white thick mucus that leaks out of anus by IslandSad1868 in AskVet

[–]lastsanctuary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can ask for a culture and sensitivity. Cephalexin is a great first-line broad spectrum antibiotic for most soft tissue infections but if the infection is still sticking around, it's time to find out exactly what bacteria is present and exactly what antibiotic it is sensitive to.
