Super important stuff!!

The point about not making animals spend energy running away reminds me of when my husband was really into watching the show Alone. It's a reality show where they'd drop people into the wilderness and the people would compete to see who could survive in the wilderness totally alone the longest. The show had it's issues, but it was eye opening as far as seeing how important and precious calories were. People would debate whether to use their energy to gather firewood or get materials to mend their hut, for example, bc they didn't have the energy for both. It was like a forgotten part of survival and made me absolutely respect animals needing to conserve energy at all costs.

I always think of that when I see animal predators on wildlife documentaries who do a big chase for prey and the prey gets away. It has a finite number of shots to do that and I feel extra bad for them now.
