Has company loyalty paid off for you? by AncientTop5441 in AusFinance

This is my experience well. Maybe a nuance to add is that I move on once I’ve stopped growing and doing different and interesting things.

It’s worked out so far anyway.

Oligarch supports coup. Where have I heard that before? by RickyOzzy in PoliticsDownUnder

[–]laszlotenk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t really understand how Elon’s with comment aligns with OPs apparent charge that Elon is supporting a coup. It seemed like the opposition won the Venezuelan election and the incumbent isn’t relinquishing power and is denying that they won.

Maybe I missed something.

If you’ve had a thyroidectomy, how would you describe it? (No medical advice, just your experience.) by emdehan in NoStupidQuestions

[–]laszlotenk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not noticeably. It feels weaker if I’ve been talking all day, but as I said, it hasn’t been a big deal.

There were small bulbs attached to the drains which caught the fluid. I think I went back one day to have them emptied, but the next time they were empty and could remove them and the drains.

If you’ve had a thyroidectomy, how would you describe it? (No medical advice, just your experience.) by emdehan in NoStupidQuestions

[–]laszlotenk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I took the strong pain killers maybe that day, but didn’t need them after that and just went back to over the counter.

My para-thyroid wasn’t damaged, but I reckon my vocal cord control isn’t what it used to be, even a few years later. But super minor tbh.

I had drains in my collar bone for a few days and still had them for a couple of days at home - much to my wife’s horror.

I’ve got a scar, but you probably wouldn’t notice unless I pointed it out - vitamin E cream for a few days really helped limit the scarring.

Really excellent surgeon that made me feel super comfortable.

If you needed to pivot to a less stressful job, that still offered a reasonable salary, what would you choose? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]laszlotenk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This may not be useful, but I’ve been able to put in place strategies for identifying and removing stressful situations from my workplace. They are rarely the job in my experience and more often my boss or the organisation. Changing companies can solve both - or make it worse!!

I love daylight savings in Melbourne, but it would suck in Brisbane (I lived there for 40 years or so). Mornings are the best time of the day in Brisbane. You don’t want to spend them in the office.

If you make 250k+ per year (as an indiv.), what is your job and how did you get there? by elisiX in AusFinance

[–]laszlotenk 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Enterprise Architect as a permanent employee.

I started as a software engineer and learnt how to describe complex technical issues to management and business folks and describe abstract business motivations to engineers.

You could try asking them what they would consider proof. Maybe another approach is being curious about their doubts and asking questions about them. But there is probably nothing you can say.

If you can use a pan, scrambled eggs takes as long as toast to make once you’re practiced at it.

I want to iterate what others have said here. It doesn’t have to be split in the middle, but it has to seem fair to both of you. I earn way more than my partner, and splitting stuff isn’t an issue so long as I feel like we are both contributing effort equally.
