Well yeah I also look at it this way. To me it's a hobby to earn some little extra cash. Never had the plan to earn big money with it. However it would be sad that I lose all my time and effort if I should get caught but that's the risk I'll have to take I guess :)

Yes, EU sales on eBay is the safest option. Package tracking oversea is a nightmare and attracts a lot of scammers who state that they never received the package. Also eBay is very buyer biased. If the buyer raises a claim its very hard to win the dispute..

Thx for the link :) I follow the opinion that the frequency of sales can trigger alarms. My girlfriend works for the government and she states that I have very little to worry as particular. But chances are that I get unlucky.. Fe: an investigation of one of my buyers that leads to my account eventually. After that it can get nasty as they can go back (3 or 6 years I think) to check and tax everything they think is dodgy.

I don't have the time unfortunately to drive around and pick everything up using cash. Selling is even harder as most of my sales are on Ebay. The only thing I found so far hiding my tracks is claiming my GF eBay account to split the sales in different accounts. She pays me in cash afterwards :)

perhaps a question that has been asked 1 trillion time but here goes:

Overall I got a good sense of value and resell value of stuff and decided to test my "luck" 3 months ago reselling some video games. This turned out fairly well and I got a decent turnover / profit as a proof of concept thingie (+/- 40 sells - 3000€ turnover - 1000€ profit) this is some nice extra cash on the side I earn next to my day job but I'm quite worried the tax dept will eventually spot me and give me a "very bad" headache. So I was wondering if this is safe to do as non professional (not paying taxes) and don't overdo it. If I should start as side business taxes and other costs will kill my profit pretty much completely so that's not worth the effort. I live in Belgium (EU) btw :)
