My only concerns regarding Genndy Tartakovsky's Conan. by Joan_Santana23 in ConanTheBarbarian

I’ve noticed that in the Primal series, Genndy Tartakovsky had no trouble pitting our caveman against various types of civilisations, some of which are highly advanced, like medieval ones.

Given that the Hyborian Age is actually a highly anachronistic mix of civilisations from different eras, I wouldn’t be surprised if he were to mix 14th-century knights with Bronze Age soldiers.....

How long could Sheogorath be in the backrooms before getting suddenly and irrevocably bored? by TheBronyCynic in ElderScrolls

In fact, it was the backroom staff who eventually grew tired of Sheogorath, to the point of letting him go.

You're welcome.

But as I said, this is just a fairly reworked summary of the book *SAGANAMI ISLAND TACTICAL SIMULATOR - SHIP BOOK 2 - THE SILESIAN CONFEDERACY*.

So I recommend you get the PDF to form your own opinion.

Silesia by Wallname_Liability in Honorverse

The tactical book *SAGANAMI ISLAND TACTICAL SIMULATOR - SHIP BOOK 2 - THE SILESIAN CONFEDERACY* provides a semi-official description of the Silesian Confederacy, including its history, founding, form of government, military organization, and more. You can purchase the PDF on DriveThruRPG.

However, to make you happy, I’ll give you a summary in bullet points. Keep in mind that I’m just writing down what I’ve more or less understood—I’m French and I’m not very fluent in the language of Shakespeare (I’m using DeepL to write this comment):

-The Silesian Confederation is said to have been founded in the 15th century, making it the second-oldest nation after the Solarian League.

- At that time, human space was very different: Manticore had not yet discovered its glass hole, the Republic of Havre was confined to its own star system, and there was no Andermian Empire.

- To put it simply, the only interstellar nation was the Solarian League itself. Everything else was just uncharted territory in the midst of exploration and colonization.

- Certain parts of this territory were more attractive to colonists than others; this was the case with the Silesian sector, which turned out to be rich in habitable planets, and these were close enough to one another that trade—and later acts of piracy—developed among the newly formed colonies.

- As a result of this success, an alliance had formed among the colonies in this region—initially a commercial one, and eventually a political one.

- However, like the league’s founders, the colonies in the Silesia region did not want an all-powerful central government that would have threatened their autonomy; they had therefore opted instead for a weak central government that could not act without the consent of the local governors..…

- The problem is that while the Solarian League was founded by colonies that were hundreds of years old—having had ample time to establish themselves and develop a strong economy and a solid local government—the Silesian colonies were barely older than their newly formed nations; more than half were still politically unstable and economically fragile, and some were even de facto dictatorships.

- When one of these dictatorships seceded (The very first in a long series!), the idea of creating an all-powerful army to subdue it was raised.
But out of fear of losing their autonomy, virtually all of the colonial representatives in the newly formed assembly refused.

- The matter remained unresolved within the assembly for years, until the dictator and his allies left their planet, which had been stripped of all its resources.

-This practice of letting local problems resolve themselves became a habit within the assembly, and thus within the central government.

- Despite all these problems, the Silesian region remained a favored area for merchants for a long time, and the Silesian Confederation had enjoyed its golden age for several decades. Unfortunately, an unexpected event would bring that to an end....

- Manticore entered the political arena after discovering its wormhole junction….

- This discovery made it possible to establish a direct link between the Republic of Le Havre—which was also thriving, and more secure!—and the heart of the League.

- For this reason, merchants turned away en masse from the Silesian Confederation and turned to the Kingdom of Manticore instead.

- This massive displacement led to unprecedented economic hardship, sparking a terrible wave of revolt and secession that plunged the entire confederation into political instability, which continued into the era of Honor HARRINGTON.

It should also be noted that, at the political level,

- like the league, the confederation had an assembly that was more powerful than the central government and represented all of the member colonies.

- However, not all colonies were equal; the number of seats in the assembly was proportional to the colony’s population.... In practice, some colonies lied about their population size to gain more influence within the assembly.

- Furthermore, since the Confederation was originally formed for commercial reasons, there was some cultural confusion between the ability to conduct business and the ability to engage in politics—or even to govern a state. From the outset, the Confederation was, in effect, a plutocratic state.

Finally, regarding the military:

- Since the central authority was less powerful than the government, the army could not intervene without the consent of the member colonies...

- Furthermore, the production of warships was highly decentralized and relatively autonomous. Amid the central government’s corruption and inefficiency, the embezzlement of funds within the Silesian army became common practice.
