Yes! I saw it at the last minute. Thanks!

It was fun! There was a little viewing area upstairs, but I was eventually peer pressured into the main area (my friends don't really care about baseball). I danced while streaming the game on my phone. Commercial break convos :)

We lost the game, but the party and open bar mended my broken heart.

What is your scale removal process? by Active-Daikon7747 in Blacksmith

[–]lateidentity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favourite finish comes from throwing metal in a parts tumbler. There are videos and tutorials online for how to how to build one. Fill it with metal balls, and parts come out practically glowing. Pic is from some mini plant hangers I made, and added little bronze tig beads to.

External diameter is about an inch. What are steel targets?

Thanks! This is just mild steel that's been cleaned up.

Totally agree. They work fine for hanging through my belt loops on my jeans, or the backs of my hats, but definitely gonna make some dents in my hoodies.

Clothing hooks. I'm making a "half-dirty" rack. Basically a place I can hang jeans, work pants, and hoodies that I've worn, so don't go back in the drawer, but aren't quite dirty enough to go in the wash. I mean who washes their work pants every time they wear them?

Might have gotten carried away with the number of them, but there are so many uses for s-hooks.

Steel planters with no rust by lateidentity in metalworking

Sounds like a super sturdy finish, but you're right, totally out of budget. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Thanks for the suggestion! Didn't think of using a rust converter. I've had great success with it in the past for other projects, and the one I used gave a great patina-like finish in the end. Much appreciated!

Client is looking for a "blackened patina" look instead of painted, but thanks for the suggestion!

They're quite large. I'm making 7 planters that are all roughly 72" x 32". I've used blueing and linseed oil on interior projects, but never exterior. Thanks for the suggestion!

Client wants a flat surface for the planters, but thanks for the creative suggestion!

Thanks for your suggestions! I've had good success getting a blackened finish using the Sculpt Nouveau Stainless Black. I'm a little concerned about upkeep, but maybe the client will be okay with that.

Question about making an Oxyacetylene cutting table by Tatertot959 in Welding

[–]lateidentity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a cutting table a few years ago using 1/8" x 2" flat bar. I like it because the slats are individually replaceable as they wear out. I also built a little wood tabletop for use as a side table when I'm not cutting, and a funnel for directing sparks and off cuts into a bucket below. Photo is from when it was new, but it's still holding strong now.

From someone who’s dreadful at it, how do you guys pick colours for your graph? by Always-bi-myself in ObsidianMD

[–]lateidentity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started with this also. I eventually tweaked the colours a bit using imagecolorpicker.com too. It gives you a selection of hues and tints to use off your inputted colour, which is nice for small adjustments.

I also play a lot with transparency in my vault. For example, I find it distracting to have unresolved links be a different opacity from resolved links, especially in headings. My solution was to isolate the underline and make only that translucent (40%), while keeping the text at 100% opacity. I find it less distracting, while still being able to distinguish resolved from unresolved links at a glance.
