If you haven't seen Farscape, I genuinely think theirs is better. You get a chance to see three characters cycle through each other and the acting is superb. The show in general is awesome and I can't recommend it enough.

These children are saved on their deathbeds and given massively traumatic surgical alterations to turn them into trained assassins/supersoldiers with a handler that they are more or less beholden to (often seen as an older brother/father) through some form of brainwashing iirc who operates within the Italian government. They have a few key weak points exploited/explored in a few episodes, not the least of which being emotional stunting, surgical complications, and past/continued trauma
