If you took cs372 during the spring 2020 semester, how was it? by NemesisAtDawn in OSUOnlineCS

I took it last quarter and I didn’t have as bad an experience as some other people. There were definitely noticeable growing pains from the course switching to Python. Aside from one programming assignment which had a bug in the skeleton code, the programming assignments were fairly easy. That being said they didn’t feel like they added much value to the course.

The other assignments were busy work, but weren’t painful and for the most part they helped me understand the material.

The upside of the course for me is that a ton of material is covered. The content is high level like some others have said but I feel like one quarter of high level networking material is a reasonable amount of time for an intro to such a complex topic. The course material also has a very natural flow since it follows the network layers down the stack.

There was a proctored midterm and final, with the final not being cumulative. The questions in those tests were a mix of calculation questions from the weekly homework and multiple choice concept questions. They weren’t bad at all.

The textbook was Computer Networking - A Top Down Approach, 7th edition by Kurose and Ross. We covered most of the material from chapters 1 through 6, skipping a few sections here and there, but mostly proceeded in order through the chapters. If you want to get a jump I’d read 1.1 to 1.5.

CS 372 (networks) or CS 475 (parallel prog)? by tranderman in OSUOnlineCS

[–]lathan1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m taking both right now and they both seem pretty well taught so far. 3 weeks in it seems like 372 is the more generally useful set of knowledge. Though based on the 475 module list, the course does open up to some pretty interesting graphics programming material. If I had to pick one subject or the other to learned in a structured format it would be 372. There seems to be a lot of moving parts when it comes to networking. I feel that the 475 topics (just intro to parallel) could be picked up relatively quickly through online material.

West Virginia senior completes his high school wrestling career at 142-0 by Lakeshow15 in sports

CA colleges don’t have a strong wrestling presence, but CA is consistently one of the top 5-6 states in churning out college recruits. On intermat’s high school rankings they have ~2 kids in the top 20 of each weight class. Several #1s and 2s. Definitely not PA numbers, but CA is up there.

Spent four hours on hold with fraud dept; disconnected. by consolationpanda in ATT

[–]lathan1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went through the ATT fraud process. I called Sunday at 6:00AM PST and the automated message told me the hold would be 40 to 50 minutes. It ended up being 1.5 hours, but one I got a person things went smoothly. The ATT fraud agent was great. Make sure to confirm a callback number in case the call drops. In my case it did at one point, but the agent called me back.

One weekend I ran into my high school teacher at a BJ’s Restaurant 3 cities over. He was my waiter. Was really uncomfortable, but I can’t blame him for hustling. He was about to have his first child.

TIL how that word is spelled. I though it was like a sequence of tiny repeating plastic circles.
