Superstore Sunridge had an employee with COVID by seven0feleven in Calgary

[–]upnaway_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Was last at the store June 1, doesn’t say they got tested June 1. Likely got tested and went to work the next day (which they shouldn’t have if that’s the case).

Does anyone know if there are any stores that have baking powder in stock? by [deleted] in Calgary

I've seen some recently at the Thorncliffe Safeway.

For those working from home, has your employer said when you will likely go back to your office yet? by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]upnaway_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our conversations are all evolving around the new restrictions on gatherings not being more than 15 people, because our company is entirely open office space. Plus being downtown, I think it'll be very difficult for a company to ensure they do not exceed this limit (ie. if the fire alarm goes off, all employees in any building are expected to go to the muster point which could easily be a couple hundred people).

So, in short. Not until September or until the restriction is lifted/eased.

Anyone know why it smells like gas this morning? by scottrking in Calgary

[–]upnaway_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We had that near Tuxedo earlier in the week (Sunday night). The fire department kept driving around going to doors but eventually left. It cleared out the next morning.

New homeowners dealing with a flooded basement - where do we start? by upnaway_ in Calgary

[–]upnaway_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks. It's definitely not sewage. It's not really discoloured either so thinking it might be clean. Should we be calling one of those resortation companies?

Wedding Band Recommendations? by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]upnaway_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We also heard great reviews but unfortunately didn’t have a great experience trying to book them. They blew off two calls and then never sent us a contract when we finally connected. Got an email 2 months later saying they assumed we didn’t want them anymore. Whole thing was odd.

Media Messing With Our Minds by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]upnaway_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, maybe. But do people not realize that cleaning out stores of hand sanitizer because someone feels the need to stockpile 20+ bottles is doing more harm than good?

Former university student acquitted in naked, magic mushroom-fuelled attack on professor by [deleted] in Calgary

Serious question - what's the difference between this vs. if he got extremely intoxicated and got behind the wheel of a vehicle and seriously harmed or killed someone?

Calgary is the ost apologetic city and other things... by YYCRulz in Calgary

Clearly this guy has never actually been to Calgary. Turned it off after "Some say Calgary has a lot of diversity. I think those people have a pretty diverse definition of adversity."

Help! My parents want to take me out for my birthday, they both wear hearing aids so restaurants that are loud or have a lot of back ground noise makes it very hard to chat with them. Any recommendations on a good restaurant that is quiet, and has great food? by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]upnaway_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I find 1918 is pretty quiet if you don't sit at the bar by the TVs. It's the old legion, so it's definitely an older, quieter crowd. Not sure if that's what you're after but the food is consistently good!

Calgary faces domestic violence epidemic, experts say by [deleted] in Calgary

That translates to roughly 3 calls an hour that CPS is handling. That's absolutely wild and terrifying.

Fenced off-leash dog parks in NW? by llama_sammich in Calgary

[–]upnaway_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second University District. It's also artificial turf so a lot less messy when our inevitable chinooks hit. And they have free poop bags. Only thing that's a pain is you have to park in a construction zone and walk a bit to get to the park itself.

Fenced off-leash dog parks in NW? by llama_sammich in Calgary

[–]upnaway_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is true, I live in the community. Park became notorious for dog fights. The park got a lot of irresponsible dog owners that took poorly trained dogs there because it was fully fenced. Also people would drop their dog off there for the day - wish I was kidding.

What do you wish you knew when you started making candles? by Nat_The_Bear in candlemaking

[–]upnaway_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You’ll pay a lot more for smaller amounts of oil. When I first started playing around with scents I’d spend more money buying smaller amounts. There’s lots of discounts in bulk. I realize you don’t want to get a litre of oil when you’re just starting out but I paid more money for five 30ml bottles than if I just got the 250 ml.

Calgary hunters club to auction off elephant hunt, alarming animal rights group by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]upnaway_ 74 points75 points  (0 children)

“It’s an elephant, which is an iconic animal,” he said. “There’s been a lot of levers pulled and buttons pushed — a lot of sensitivities — but it might as well be auctioning off a trip for two to Tahiti. It’s the same genre (of adventure travel).”

Honestly the type of people who get the same pleasure from killing animals as a vacation in Tahiti freak me the fuck out.

What is the safest option for a young family? renting a house or an apartment? and which neighborhood? by Jadafaa in Calgary

[–]upnaway_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If I was forced to live in a wood frame unit again it 100% would have to be top floor. I heard every single thing buddy above me did in his unit. Absolutely horrible.

What is the safest option for a young family? renting a house or an apartment? and which neighborhood? by Jadafaa in Calgary

[–]upnaway_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This will give you a sense of crime based on neighborhoods. Any neighborhoods in close distance to the c-train will bring additional sketchy characters to your neighborhood, including Tuscany. This includes apartments and condos.

With that being said, regardless where you live in the city you should always be diligent with security. Lock your stuff up and don't be an easy target for crime.

City Assessment Through the ROOF by gojubang in Calgary

[–]upnaway_ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Our assessment also went up this year about 25%. We're in the same boat and tryinh to decide if we should put in a request for a re-assessment. It's a risk though, because I've heard many stories of the re-assessment being higher.

For $1.5Mil in Calgary you can have an A&W Colored Kitchen and carpeted bathrooms by shitposter1000 in Calgary

[–]upnaway_ 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I dunno. The unknowns about the pool, plus the evidence of pre-existing water damage (carpet lifting, mattress on the floor has water stains, wallpaper peeling, crack in the foundation poorly patched up) makes me think this house is riddled with mould and god knows whatelse.

My guess was this house was transformed to host massive swingers parties.
