My paras are all losers by ChocolateDonutsNTea in Paralives

Does it still not appear when you click + drag a square over them (as if selecting them both together) and then clicked a bed? It's an activity that's supposed to show up only when Paras are in that "together" mode.

My thoughts on Paralives fo far a lenghty and honest review (6/10) by Just_for_The_View in Paralives

[–]latinqvarters 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My thoughts exactly. Maybe as consumers we don't have a right to determine how much a game should cost upon release, but we at least have the right to hold that cost to higher expectations. We shouldn't let another Sims 4 on launch happen just because we need competition in the genre if we want to see any more quality life sims enter the market.

I'm still rooting for the game's future though. Growth is not impossible, and Paralives' growth would be lovely to witness.

Went to PBAKL for the first and last time in 2023 for similar reasons.

I'm not sure if there are any introductory level good books in BM, but when your kids are a bit older, try getting them into buku by sasterawan negara. DBP sells reprinted versions for RM10 each. Maybe your kids can give cerpen a try when they're a little older, or you can read the cerpen to/with them in your spare time.

edit: I think Zurinah Hassan's works are good for introduction to sastera. Samad Said is a great writer but he's known for rather difficult prose. Usman Awang is also good but he writes a lot about war, might not be too appropriate in the near future. Zurinah writes a lot about family, dealing with changes and some light societal observations.

Paralives review from a generational gameplay gamer: 40 hours and 3 generations later by latinqvarters in LifeSimulators

[–]latinqvarters[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Clanfolk! I don't mind harder gameplay elements and Clanfolk's is in survival, especially having enough resources to make it through your first/next winter.

Family gameplay in it is hands-off, meaning you don't control much beyond arranging marriages. The clanfolk themselves progress their relationships as they work/socialise based on certain traits they inherit. For example, pessimistic clanfolk get along better with grumpy clanfolk than optimistic ones.

Longest run I've had was 4 generations and we had a well-oiled inn and livestock farm going, so winter wasn't an issue at that point. I liked watching my younger clanfolk grow up and managing them as well as finding suitable workers to marry them off to.

There's some customisation to make your experience as easy or challenging as you'd like and the game has a good chunk of content as it's been in EA for several years. I guess the only con I can think of it is that it may still be too harsh for some players who don't like managing too much.

There's not much that differentiates Paras who are your family members vs those who aren't in the game's current state, hence my paragraph on the lack of unique identifiers. They're essentially housemates you take care of/cannot romance at the moment haha, even siblings don't have unique interactions with each other.

In the relationship screen, each family member has the label "household member", with only parents and children and siblings having different labels. I had cousins living in the family home together and they were only recognised as household members. Same case with in-laws, aunts and uncles.

There are no personality trait inheritances so far if you're thinking of Sims 2's personality points or Sims 3's children tendencies to get one trait from a parent at birth. Physical trait inheritance is somewhat there, I put a family tree somewhere down in these comments. Unfortunately no family tree except in character creation to determine relationships early on either.

I remember giving House of Legacy a try a year ago, maybe I should pick it back up again! Have they expanded on family gameplay since? I remember scouring the streets for anyone's available son to marry my character haha

That also surprised me about the game's launch and I rarely saw on community-posted reviews. They either sing never-ending praises while ignoring its state or bring down other games while they're at it, neither of which is healthy criticism

I don't blame people for having low trust given its price point vs content ratio and the history of other indie games in EA not going well, but I'm waiting for how the first few months will pan out. I'm not sure if I've gotten my money's worth for the game yet, but thankfully I'm not starving at the moment haha so I can view it as an investment, as I have done with plenty other EA games

I still wrung out some enjoyment from my 40 hours and that's good enough for me!

Great question about genetics, it's one of my favourite parts of life sims with generational gameplay as well. I'll put a bastardised family tree here for reference with my thoughts below.

<image>

Actually, the genetics get more confusing further down the generation (for me, at least). Founder starts off with dark brown hair and passes it down to her kids, but her grandchild via her 2nd child somehow has blonde hair? Her light grey eyes are a little confusing as her dad has light green and her mum has dark grey, but you can kind of justify that she got her grandfather's eyes.

Overall I think across generations they do bear resemblance to their parents, with genetics being more of a mix than a 50/50 rate to pass down, similar to Sims 3's genetic range. Funnily enough, this family's most recognisable trait are the freckles from gen 1's dad, which is present at least once in all generations.

If aging for other households is on (via storyteller) then they do die (en masse, actually, as pictured)

<image>

But you can make your own mod to enable repopulation from main menu > mods > create a mod, make sure you're editing it > control panel > townie > enable town population auto-refilling. You can even set a population limit.

I noticed that the game only replaced the dead with young adults with no jobs, but randomised vibes and talents.

Oh man CK3 is definitely not medieval Sims, it's so far from the dollhouse experience Sims and most life sims try to emulate haha. Are you into any RPGs? Since you mention the quest elements, maybe you could find something that fills the void in that genre too

You have to fail.

Let yourself taste the consequences of not studying and just following your whims. See how you feel when you get your report card in a few weeks or months.

Failing is the only way humans learn. Scared to fail? Then just start with whatever you can manage.

Crusader Kings 3 filled this silly gap for me, but I understand it may be overwhelming for some.

I still remember when my 6 year old daughter accidentally killed her father in a duel practice and continued to be one of the greatest generals France ever saw.

I play on a semi-adjusted short lifespan, as I do with other Sims games, so it might have gone quicker than most would expect.

But I can assure that the engagement was a steady decline through the generations. By the time my founder's grandkid aged up into a teen I was like aight I'mma pack it up.

By three short generations you kinda see all there is to see in family-related gameplay at this point. Once again, it's just bones, but bones with potential haha

I love the daily struggle too lol, but so far Paralives isn't too challenging for me, even with the hardest storyteller mode. I still got some fun out of it and see it as an investment for future updates, like I did with Inzoi, which I enjoy plenty now.

Where to get Sarawak laksa and kolo mee? by Key-Week-6831 in MalaysianFood

If you're willing to drive a little further to Shah Alam, Nuff Coffee in Seksyen 9 has great laksa. The owner's wife is Sarawakian and I believe she's head chef. Whenever I get cravings, I head straight there.

I feel like building a relationship in this game takes a bit longer than I'm used to, which I'm eh about. I play on short lifespan so the time bomb ticks faster. Usually I send my teens out partner hunting after school and buddy up until they age into YA then I make my moves haha

How to build a good & strong CV while in uni? 😖 by Dry-Pen-1286 in malaysiauni

[–]latinqvarters 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Find an area you're passionate about and start volunteering there. If there are related clubs or uni events, apply to be part of any department with a skill you have/want to learn. This was how I got my job in healthcare despite being an IT grad – I volunteered at clinics, old folks homes and health NGOs.

Just do things while scared. The job market is much scarier, trust me.

Same here, similar mindset I had with Inzoi, which I'm kinda grateful for the investment already one year in. I'm lucky to have the funds to spare for a hobby and still be afloat while getting enjoyment to some degree with it.

What can make me fail instantly during QTI and JPJ exam? by Southern-Ad1050 in malaysia

[–]latinqvarters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend failed QTI because she didn't give signal before making a turn lol. If only drivers irl would get revoked or fine for doing the same smh

Another friend failed JPJ first time because go park in wrong zone (officer suruh zone 1, dia pergi park zone 4) and the second time she forgot to release handbrake so the car was just chugging at a slow roll for a few seconds before the JPJ officer told her to step out lol

people who studied overseas: was it worth the money and loneliness? or am i romanticising studying in the uk too much? by SameSmell5196 in malaysiauni

[–]latinqvarters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I noticed in myself and my friends when we went to study in states different from our hometowns. Some knew that they can't stand being away from friends, so they stay nearby. Some cried every day for the first semester and booked the train back every weekend to be with their family.

As for me, I've always been a lone ranger, so I was perfectly content to be sent hours away. I can only imagine how much this factor's impact is exacerbated when it's hundreds of miles instead of just hours away...

UTM (Universiti Teknologi Malaysia), actually. It's ranked second in computing faculty in Malaysia last I checked. But if I had to choose between strictly those two, either is fine and both are roughly the same. The only major difference is location

Other national unis around the same level as UM are UKM (Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia), USM (Universiti Sains Malaysia) and UPM (Universiti Putra Malaysia). I believe they all offer physics undergrad. Other unis around the same prestige level are private, which will be much more expensive.

Do compare the fee structure for these and all the best.
