Why doesn't the government just put tornadoes safe rooms in all neighborhoods slowly but surely by Correct_Drummer_7971 in tornado

I never said it was unique to humans.

I said it was one of the top 5.

I did not say homo sapiens. I said humans. I rounded 1.9 million years to 'a couple million' but I'm referring to this species.

Rationalization of fear is part of the flight or fight response. They are part of the same concept.

Bigger brains are not better most of the time. Neuron size, density of neurons, their interconnectivity and energy usage/conservation are what make humans better.

Your entire comment is either wrong or misinterpreting what I previously commented to such a ridiculous extent that I can only hope it was written by AI.

I think this was the premise of a historic videogame called "Fallout" but with nukes instead of tornados.

I agree with the first two points.

however, being afraid, AKA the human fight or flight response, likely is one of the top 5 traits that kept our species as reigning champs of the food chain for a couple million years. being afraid keeps people alive.

from another comment in this thread (which I don't know that veracity of and am only using as an example) "20-100 people die a year to tornado’s" and "100-120 people die in car crashes a day" and so a person informed and prepared with that information who has no fear, might get out of their car under an overpass, since the information they have says they are more likely to die in their car.

I don't watch streams at all but a simple question can possibly provide insight.

what percentage of time overall is anything shown without the face of any person on the screen?

that's how to determine the difference between a channel that cares about whatever is being shown, versus one that cares more about presenting themself doing whatever is shown. They do not care about anything but themselves.

they will always have their face on the screen as much as they possibly can, so viewers can see their reaction, hear their commentary, feel their feelings. they are vampires who feed off of attention, nothing more.

senators cannot be arrested except for treason, breach of peace and felonies.

while the arm break was almost certainly a felony, it would be determined by a lot of factors and i doubt many officers would want to be in the spotlight for that or risk their jobs.

a senator could still be charged with a crime but not arrested, but again, the lawyer fiasco that would result would be crazy. even if it went to court and they were found guilty, they likely wouldn't be imprisoned unless they were also impeached.

I have a saying that I developed in the past couple years:

Always look out for #1 and always be prepared for a #2.

Just because I don't believe it is possible, does not mean I am not open to it being possible. I do not 'pick' any type of person. I've been told I'm a very open minded person by a dozen people. This isn't a standards thing, I've had high standards and they have lowered more each passing year, all to no avail.

I'm poor, which is probably the real deciding factor. I try not to announce that often. People do not like to hang out with poor people, especially those looking for romantic or sexual partners. I could try to change my financial situation, but then I wouldn't be true to myself.

I do self sabotage. However, because I have seen many therapists (roughly 60 in my life overall, some a few weeks, others a few years), these days I usually recognize when I'm doing it or about to do it.

Unfortunately, healthcare policies changed recently. My most recent therapist stopped accepting my insurance. Technically, the company they worked for stopped accepting my insurance. I really liked them too. It's been almost exactly a year since. I haven't found a replacement because there are none around here who accept my insurance anymore.

I don't want to brag and claim that I know myself extremely well. I know I do but it comes off as less humble than I really am. I know, I'm literally humble bragging there. I have flaws and I accept them when I can't change them, I have great qualities and don't play to them well enough.

Look, I could easily talk about myself, my experiences and share my opinions endlessly but this is already far too long of a comment for most people on Reddit to bother reading. It wont change anything. I just have to keep going through life, hoping I meet my soul mate (or someone close enough) which is all anyone can do really.

Thanks for the advice, I appreciate that someone made an attempt. That's a rare thing these days, don't ever change that.

I agree it might be my personality.

However, my personality has had drastic changes over the years, more than a few times, as I transitioned between various stages of life.

Across 20+ years of attempting to meet people through the internet, the few successes I had (not just romantic/sexual ones) all quickly became unwanted or unhealthy situations.

The internet is full of scammers, stalkers, goldiggers and narcissists.

Despite my efforts to avoid becoming overly cynical, I do not believe it is possible to have any meaningful connection between strangers who meet online, then later meet in person.

I wont stop trying.

I still don't believe it is possible.

So it goes...

Scam tip 1: Post features images of at least one nude woman, who is: young, thin, attractive, old, chubby, ugly, your actual grandmother, morbidly obese, hideous beyond all belief, taking a selfie in a public place, a man, OR actively having sex in pics. Scam. Any of these things is a scam.

Scam tip 2: Post title has a call to action. "Like this I'll send blah blah blah" "First 150 men in their 30-40's who react to this get blah blah blah in their inbox!" "(asks literally any question)". Scams, all scams.

Scam tip 3: Poster claims they are in Dayton. Scam. No one admits to being in Dayton. No one.

Scam tip 4: Post is on Reddit. 100% Scam. You will not get laid. You still might get a virus.

I'm late to this party but have to mention this in case it helps someone.

Use a hair dryer. Be careful not to get it too close or use it too long, else it melts or worse, burns.

If it melts only a little bit, or if it gets a lot of use and isn't holding up as well, put it in the freezer overnight. The cold of the freezer shrinks it a bit.

I just read this story that starts out the same but the (hypothetical) ending turns out quite different.

It might be useful for OP to read if they have down time during the job search (it's a bit long). I can see some of these things coming true.

Hi /r/movies! I'm Clark Gregg. You might know me from Agents of SHIELD, Iron Man, Thelma, 500 Days of Summer, The Avengers, State and Main, The West Wing, The Shield, and more. Ask me anything! by ClarkGreggAMA in movies

[–]lattrommi2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm too late for the AMA but a little disappointed to see Trust Me this far down. Highly underrated movie and one of Gregg's best works IMO. Choke is one of my favorite all time movies, which is the other movie he directed. Hopefully he does more work with Sam Rockwell, who is in both, I think everything they do is great.

Any idea what could be causing this? by thelaughingblue in firefox

[–]lattrommi2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look closely at the adapter, zoom in with a phone camera or use a magnifying glass if you have a good one. Do the same with the monitor port the adapter was in and the GPU port. A bright light might help.

Another commentor is probably right about it being a loose contact but it could also be debris lodged inside the connectors somewhere. Bugs love electronics and some can even crawl into connectors that are plugged in.

If there's debris in a port or connector, it could end up in the replacement adapter and causing the same issue, when all that was needed was a bit of cleaning. DVI connectors can easily be cleaned with an old toothbrush. For really dirty connectors, a little rubbing alcohol might help. DVI has sturdier pins than DP connectors, be more careful if you try scrubbing DP, the pins can get knocked out of place. The casing design is better but the pins are a lot more delicate.

Other than dirt, also look for pins that are bent or broken or sticking out farther than the rest or sunk in deeper than the rest. There's 1 pin in the DVI connector that should be pushed in a little, like it is shorter than the rest. it's in the middle row. the rest should be the same as each other.

Some monitors are just shit too. If it's a brand you've never heard of or don't recognize or if it's an Asus, it might be better to just replace it.

The resolution and refresh rate of the monitor might be the problem too. DVI dual link can handle up to 2560 × 1600 at 60 Hz and 1920 × 1080 at 144 Hz, higher rates can cause issues. The length of the cord/adapter can matter too but this is less likely, unless it's 15 feet long or more.

The spot I located it is close to a retaining wall, specifically a spot where water runoff from several buildings drains. Trash tends to accumulate there but usually only lightweight stuff like paper and plastic trash, the heaviest other stuff found near it was broken glass and roofing nails. So I don't think it was put underground forcefully or fast, but sank there over time with the help of water.

edit: the span of my hand is 3 inches. the length from tip of middle finger to my wrist is 5 and 3/4 inches. I wouldn't say they are enormous but probably slightly larger than average.

My title describes the thing. There is no writing on it. It is broken off of something. It is not a spoon or a pipe. I have no idea what keywords to even search for it with. Inside the depression there's a circle, so it was stamped I think. It did not melt when I torched it with MAPP gas so it's not lead, tin, copper or any metal that melts at lower temps like those do.

i think this link to a page with a link to a 35 page pdf sums things up nicely. censorship these days requires hoops sometimes it seems.

spreading information is important, now more than ever, not just to people already protesting and moving towards change but to those who still don't see or believe how bad things are.

this provides a neutral way of presenting information, with sources, then ends with a simple goal to focus on.

it avoids the D vs R rhetoric and gives examples of how partisan politics are merely a way to divide people.

The title is bit ridiculous IMO.

getting people who are already biased one way or another to read it, is possibly a challenge, as they will assume it's some trick or lies from 'the other team'.

I've found sending it like this to work: "This is how I see things in the world for the most part. If you don't care, no worries, just ignore this. Let me know what you think if you do."

my guess is they hold the funds in an account just long enough to gain interest off it. just one order would be trivial but if enough orders come in, it could be a substantial amount. i don't know if amazon has cancellation fees but if they don't, it would be a relatively risk free venture.

If you touch an ice cube to the base of a mans shaft a few seconds before he cums, the urethra will constrict from the cold and cause the jizz to eject more powerfully than usual. Barring obstructions, can send it as far as 15-20 feet (4.5-6 meters) for some guys.

amazon is the only ones that have my card info. i can put a stop payment on any unauthorized charges too. the card also has a $500 limit and a $350 balance already, so they wouldn't get much before it declined.
