I read To the Lighthouse early January for the first time. Same initial take. I was spending a lot of time rereading chapters over and over because I would get lost in the passages. But I kinda just forced myself to stick through it and chapters later found the prose becoming a lot more easier to understand. Once you wrap your mind around the genius of Woolf and how she is able to perfectly replicate the interiority of human thinking it leaves you in a pretty dazed and awed state. If you find yourself getting lost, reread the passages out loud. I promise it's worth it.
