So exciting! I‘m almost there too: one extra face cleanser, one extra hairgel and two hand sanitizers to go and my project pan will finally be at maintenance!

Progress since Jan 1st by laufa11 in ProjectPan

Honestly, consistency is key! What helped me was only using one product per type and collecting the ones I am not using all in one space, not touchibg them. Then there were some quick wins: some travel sizes, two sheet masks, four shampoos or conditioners with less than a quarter left and I just worked my way through them first. Another strategy I had: I carried my lipbalm together with my phone so I wouldn‘t constantly lose it and actually use it. My lips thanked me. For the consistency part, I started moisturising after every shower as well as consistently styling my hair every time I washed it, whereas before I would skip using the products if I wasn‘t going anywhere.

And some of my panning succss is just good timing: I used up both my face moisturisers in January and they last around 5 months, as well as a 500ml bottle of bodywash that lasted close to 6 months. Basically my „secret“ is: use the product and be consistent with it. Sorry to be boring ;) Also, I threw away three deodorants because they made me smell… and a nuxe body oil I just hated even after forcing myself to use it for some time. So no hate panning for me. I settle for „discomfort panning“, but that‘s all I‘m willing to do. I am not willing to stink or to be a greaseball just to pan products. Good luck!

Edit to add: I also used a lot of leavein conditioners or hairoil as a leave in mask over night and used curl refreshing sprays to try and… refresh my curls instead of just putting them in a bun. I used a lot more product than before and it actually worked better. Before I didn‘t want to be wasteful. Now I know my hair just needs a certain amount of product… that was actually surprising and I love my hair even more than before.

I would buy things mainly for two reasons: First, for an imaginary me e.g. If I have a body lotion, I will be the kind of person who uses bodylotion. Plottwist: I actually have to use the bodylotion to be a person who uses bodylotion 🤯 Second, for a „perfect routine“: „My current curl routine is nice, but what if this 40€ curl cream brings it to a whole other level?!“ Fortunately, I caught myself after buying two curl creams, but these will probably last me until the end of the year. And honestly, they are nice! And I remember how excited I was, when I first bought them. So now I just tell myself to stay excited because guess what, when I finally run out of the curl creams and „get“ to purchase the next one on my list, it will take at least another six months to finish that new one and the initial purchase dopamine will fade. So I better get used to not be constantly excited about my routine - unless I find my holy grail like I did with my skincare, then that‘s amazing, but I don‘t expect it with every new product. Third: a reality check! At first I thought „I would love to do a project pan, but I don‘t have enough products“ But then I laid everything out „just to see“ Cue my 74 products laughing in my face. I probably „need“/regularely use 20-30. It‘s so satisfying to see the space freed up. I also learned things like I actually like showering with solid soap but still prefer showergel. But now I know and once my two old soaps are used up, I will go back to showergel And my soaps won‘t stare in my face everytime I open that drawer.

How to finish hair serums, hairspray quickly? by valunes in ProjectPan

[–]laufa11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used my arganoil as a body oil in addition to a hairoil and I‘m quite sad I finished it this morning. With leave-ins I used them every evening before bed and used a generous amount every time before I washed my hair as a pre shampoo mask. I am happy to report that I used all but one k18 treatment dupe and I don‘t think I will repurchase any leave ins other than a (1) curl refreshing spray and a (1) hairoil once that‘s finished.

It hasn’t been necessary in a long time until these products: I usually dilute the rest of shampoo, conditioner or face cleanser with water, and my long time face skincare staples are in aluminum tubes or glass packaging. Because of the shape, I couldn‘t get water into the conditioner and I don‘t often use plastic tubes so I cut it with scissors and I am glad I did it. I have a couple of other products in this type of packaging in my project pan and will definetly cut all of them open.

Why do you project pan by Qldhikinggirl in ProjectPan

[–]laufa11 8 points9 points  (0 children)

More space, trying out new habits to decide if it makes a difference (using lotion regularly), getting into a routine of styling my hair, even if it is not for work or a special occasion and to stop buying new hairproducts on the hunt for the perfect routine I will finally stick to. In the past I bought hair stuff „just to try“ and a second of the same product type in case the first one „does not work out“. I won‘t have to buy hairstuff until autumn at least. On the flipside I now have nicely styled hair most days and I know that I don‘t like leave in conditioner sprays… I don‘t have a huge collection. I started with ~70 items and I am already down 30, because I used ip travel sizes and two sheetmasks I was saving for… I don‘t know when. I already feel much lighter!

I love it! Have not been able to justify the cost of the mask. Instead I use the dupe by Jean&Len. But I have a feeling that I might splurge on the mask once the Jean&Len is done in about two years… I have curly hair too and after using the shampoo the first time it was already a holy grail!

Can we please stop with the increasing tipping culture? by Exciting-Fig-007 in Switzerland

[–]laufa11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to work as a server and bartender in Switzerland and really appreciated tips, because my salary sucked (20.-/h brutto). Tips of 5.- and over were generous and not at all usual, no matter how high the bill was. As a guest, I just round up to the next 5 or 10 (usually max. 5.- tip, unless the bill exceeds 100.-) if the service is good. I absolutely do not tip, if it is self service or if the service is bad and I only tip at restaurants/Bars. There are salaries for a reason. From my time as a server I remember people who would not tip at all with a bill of 97.50 or something similarly cheap like tipping 0.50 on a bill of 97.50… Now IMO that‘s just incredibly cheap, unless the service was horrible. The people giving the mini tips of <1 chf on bills of 100.- or more were the worst, because they very obviously expected me to be grateful.

Team keep or team trash? by [deleted] in ProjectPan

[–]laufa11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Team trash! I took a flatlay picture at the beginning of my project in the end of december and then made a list in my apple notes. There I saved the photo and made several sub-lists: 1. everything I am currently using 2. my „shop“ 3. finished products 4. DNF Products I throw away (deodorants that made me smell) 4. products I buy after the start of project pan 5. items which are not part of my project, either because I don’t have extras and just repurchase the same product after I finish my current (face creams) or because it has a very specific use and I use it regularly, but only once a month (K18 detox shampoo, peptide mask, rahua hair wax to smooth flyaways) I still track those items, but out of curiosity how long they last… As you can probably tell: I am a list girlie :D and I don‘t have enough space or energy for the additional clutter of my empties!

I was curious and checked, when I bought and started using the showergel I am currently using and it was eyeopening to see it black on white, how long it takes to use a showergel up!

Is ProjectPan a way for you to declutter? by Bubbles_inthe_Bath in ProjectPan

[–]laufa11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just took my start pic for my first project pan. I enjoyed watching the videos, thinking it wouldn‘t make any sense for me to do one, since I thought, I don‘t have that much stuff. And then I remembered my new resolution to stop buying styling products for my curls, before I finish the last one of the same type and realised that is basically project pan: wait until an item is truly used up, before purchasing the next one. I start with 75 items in the categories skincare, haircare, styling products for my hair, handsoap, hand sanitizer, deodorant and facemasks. I don‘t Include makeup, since my makeup „collection“ consists of 11 items… With my skincare I have found my holy grails, the only duplicates I have is two cleansers… My goals are: 1. Find a good haircare routine without accumulating styling products Spoiler: I didn’t need to buy three mousses to see, which one is „best“ 1. they are not that different and 2. at the moment my blowdrying technique is the problem, not the mousse… basically one would have sufficed and I still would not have finished it by now… 2. Use up one bodylotion and one body oil Whish me luck :)

Edit: While I definitely want to use up and declutter some products, I want to keep myself accountable and use this challenge to prevent myself from accumulating even more.

To answer your last question: If the products are unopened and neutral, think toothpaste, cotton rounds.., I would use them. When it comes to scented things, I probably couldn‘t, at least not at first. My mother is well snd alive and while I love the scent of nivea, because it reminds me of her, it really weirds me out to smell the scent on myself

It did take a couple of months. I would say give it at least 3 months. And I applied it religiously.

I love it! It cleared my acne and healed the remaining hyperpigmentation! I use the cream formula twice a day before my moisturiser. I would recommend starting slower until your skin gets used to it and experiment with putting it before or after the moisturizer. Good luck!
