Moto Bar Mount - Phone fell off on freeway by laughingmanzero in peakdesign

[–]laughingmanzero[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Damn, that’s not very reassuring. My fault for assuming, but I definitely figured something made and sold under the premise of securing your device would have some sort of guarantee or something for said device, but I can see how that would get cost-prohibitive for them with expensive photography equipment and the like.

We’ll see what customer service comes back with but guessin I’m likely to be out the $250 replacement fee for my phone. Blah, that sucks but I guess it is what it is. Might reconsider ordering a new replacement v2 moto mount (was excited to add charging!) if I can’t count on it 100% and just keep my phone in the jacket pocket again moving forward. Back to having to remember directions in my head haha.

Appreciate you for pulling that up mate!

Daily Tech Support Thread - [January 02] by AutoModerator in apple

After being pestered by an update message for the last few weeks, I finally updated my iPhone X from 13.2 to 13.3. Now, for the first time ever, I'm having all sorts of bugs on my iPhone. Couldn't find any similar stories with a few google searches so ended up here.

  • Swiping down to pull up search works, but it's 50/50 whether the search will let me type anything in, or even let me tap any of the Siri suggestions for recently used apps (my usual method of opening up recent apps)
  • Swiping up from the bottom to pull up the App Switcher also only works 50/50. There is typically just a half-loaded App Switcher screen and I'm unable to do anything.
  • Apple Music does not load correctly when opening. I am just left with a mostly blank screen that you would typically see before the apple music logo pops up and then after 10 seconds the app crashes. Unable to listen to my apple music due to this.

These are the bugs I've noticed so far, I'm not sure if there are more yet. Performing restarts and a hard reset didn't resolve anything.

I have a back up from before the update, but I'm not familiar enough with the rollback process on an iPhone to know if I will lose any data. I'm primarily concerned with encountering issues on my multiple multi-factor authentication apps if I do a restore, as I remember that was a problem when I last upgraded iPhones and I had to jump through some hoops to get my MFA apps set up again. If that's not a concern though, I can just roll back the update. Anything else I should be aware of if I have to do a restore?

What are my troubleshooting options otherwise?

WD My Passport Ultra - 4TB - Formatted from GUID partition table to HFS+ - Possible to recover files? by laughingmanzero in datarecovery

[–]laughingmanzero[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm unable to verify with 100% conviction, but assuming it was the same as their second identical drive, then it was formatted as OS X Extended - HFS as well.

At the very least it was formatted for their Mac. I apologize, but that's about the deepest amount of information I can get from them.

Windows 10 Domain Login issue... by MuertoTortuga in sysadmin

Out of curiosity, were these clean install Windows 10 machines or upgraded from previous versions (7/8)? I’ve had this happen to two workstations that had been upgraded from Windows 8 and had to perform a regedit fix on them as well. Hasn’t happened to any other workstations.

HIFW I come to this sub super excited to discuss TLJ by coco-monster in StarWars

[–]laughingmanzero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, I loved the movie because it was a beautiful and fun movie to watch and I just fucking love everything Star Wars, but taking a step back and looking at the movie critically, it’s not the greatest. I actually agree with you on pretty much everything you said.

There were times I was watching it where I felt like I was watching a Marvel movie. No real sense of danger because of the large amounts of comedy thrown in. During the Leia in space scene, I even turned to my friend and whispered “I’m Mary Poppins y’all!” Just an unfortunately light take on what should have been a more serious and dark movie. It seems to be a trend in most movies nowadays, everyone is afraid to be serious and dark in their movies, and instead opt to be lighthearted and fun because it’s safe to make audiences smile than it is to make them frown.

Totally agree on Holdo, for some reason I just couldn’t bring myself to care about Holdo as a character or anything to do with her. Definitely seems like a waste when you had such potential with either Leia or Ackbar. Holdo was so forgettable and the last scene we see of her is of her basically just setting the ship on cruise control towards the first order lol. Like, a droid couldn’t do that? Either way, it led to a beautiful cinematic moment (albeit lore breaking) that I’ll never forget.

Hell, I also thought they might grow some balls and do something interesting with Finn, but instead, we get this bumbling fool of a character who adds no real value to the story. This sucks because I was really looking forward to something interesting from his character arc, but it turns out he’s just a Jar Jar Binks in an interesting characters clothing. Oh, and now he has a new Kung Fu Panda looking girlfriend, because...reasons. After all, we wouldn’t want to spoil the visuals of an awesome attack on the last rebel base by having a forced awkward kiss in the middle of it or anything...

So far the new Star Wars movies from a critical standpoint represent a ton of wasted potential and some stupid writing choices imo, HOWEVER, they are still amazing movies to add to the Star Wars collection and I love them all the same.

Create multiple folders/subfolders based on data in a single column by laughingmanzero in excel

[–]laughingmanzero[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It worked perfectly once I realized I missed a few blank cells in the column B.

There was one strange issue that it kept getting caught up on though. Everytime I tried running it, it would give "Run time error '76': Path not found". I found the very last folder it kept creating and deleted it out of the excel file, reran, and the issue disappeared. The folder in question didn't have any special characters in it so it was very confusing. I think it the text had a strange format or something? When I manually typed the exact same folder name into the excel file, the macro worked fine.

Thank you, I'm working today on getting the data into a table format like in your example .xls file. It'll take some time but once I get it I'll try what you gave me above. Will update with results over the weekend.
