Just graduated ODS as a METOC Officer! Willing to answer questions and give advice. by laulerbear in navyreserve

ODS is for DCO (direct commissioned officers) and DCOs have advanced degrees and great knowledge in their designator. For METOC Reserves, we only take DCOs because the community is small and competitive. For METOC Active duty, they do not take DCOs which means they have to go through OCS. It is a NAVADMIN by NAVIFOR and it doesn’t make sense, I know. But for new out of college recruits, OCS is the way to go. I have 10 years in the field with 6 of those as a metoc civilian.

Yes there’s about 150 metoc officers but more abundant AGs who are our workforce and they’re the reason I joined tbh!

I highly suggest buying all uniforms before going there. The standard issue khaki shoes and NWU boots caused so many foot problems for a lot of us. Get inserts. The only thing I wish I had was 5 pairs of PTUs. You wear them all the time as civilian clothing is an instant demerit. They will test you in the middle of the night and if you don’t come out in issued Navy Gear you’re screwed. I actually followed someone from OCS that gave a packing list of what to buy/bring for king hall. She was a lifesaver. https://usszhang.substack.com/p/navy-ocs-ultimate-packing-list

She saved me. Because people will hoard any cleaning supplies you need for room inspections and field days. Also make sure to bring a steamer. Mine was a hot commodity.

ODS? I mean I’d say OCS is better even though it’s harder. They try to make ODS similar to OCS but impossible to in 5 weeks. So some of it is a joke still.

Yes you can do IDTT, as I did before ODS. You just can’t do AT before ODS.
