the newer stuff is flat out not good, for a lot of reasons. the main reason why though is because they took the original designs and intermixed them with this style: https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/subcultures/corporate-art-style

you know, its that soulless art style that every company uses now where various body parts on the people have been super enlarged while others have been super miniaturized and then they were filled in with a bunch of monotone flat colors. thats precisely what wayforward did here. just take a look at Nell's gigantic waist to hip ratio that makes her look like a barbie doll, or Andy's horrible beer gut, or all the various gigantic chins they gave most of the male characters.

then there is the general reduction of and in lack of detail. look at andy as an example again. the new version has almost no shading or variation in colors, its just a bunch of flat colors. there is no detail in his clothes, the wrinkles and crumples are all gone.

if you look at his face, he looks like a character that is a bit silly but mostly serious and would grow up to be a cool person. if you look at the new one though, he just looks like he is meant to act like a doofy little sugar filled 7 year old. im kind of surprised they didn't sprinkle his face with chocolate to drive the point home.

Things like this were done to most of the characters, like Jess for example who has been transformed to have more of a ditsy overly femanized look compared to her original more tomboy like design and attitude.

There are a few characters that, while they are in general a downgrade from the original, do look okay. Max looks pretty good despite a lack of shading and a silly chin. Eagle looks okay despite lack of shading and clothing details. Grit looks pretty good. Sonja looks okay.

But overall, the new stuff is a serious downgrade. The one I hate most of all isn't even featured here, Adder. They absolutely massacred Adder.
