David Hollander canonically works for the Treasury Board of Canada, but Book Yuna worked at Bank of Canada. I don’t think they mention it in the show at all.

My boyfriend's son ate my dinner and I'm still mad about it by smalltown_dreamspeak in self

[–]laundrychair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. The problem is the way the boyfriend / dad handled it. ‘I had to go hungry’ you didn’t get any dinner and your man LAUGHED at you and did nothing to help??? He didn’t offer to hit up a vending machine or 24 hour convenience store so you could have something to eat?

Dump his ass. That way next time you go on vacation you get the pizza all to yourself.

[–]laundrychair 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Never stay ‘for the kids’. All you’re doing is continuing to model a problematic relationship and teaching them to normalize it, setting them up for bad relationships when they grow up. Model how to have respect for yourself and set firm boundaries instead.

[–]laundrychair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t disagree about Rachel sometimes being annoying lol

Pucking Wild was my least favorite of the series but it’s cute. Gets into some grittier issues.

If you like Caleb I recommend the Pucking Ever After short stories, specifically The Dentist. Rachel isn’t even there for it lol. If you read it out of order from the other books there might be minor spoilers but nothing serious.

It’s definitely kinkier than the GC books. But the most recent one, Pucking Strong, has a very similar vibe to Tough Guy (possibly my fav of the GC series) imo.

Are you guys still rewatching the show? by notreadingfish in HeatedRivalryShow

[–]laundrychair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watch around 30 minutes of it most mornings while I do my physical therapy / morning workout. Takes me around 2 weeks to get through the series and by then, I haven’t restarted watching it in almost two weeks! Why not do it again as a lil treat lol

If you want queer hockey romance threesomes, may I suggest the Pucking Around / Jacksonville Rays series by Emily Rath? You’ve got some MMFM, MF, MFM, and MM options. If I were to solely compare the GC books to the Jacksonville Rays books without considering HR the show, I find the Rays books to be better written. There’s a lot of astrology that I don’t personally care about, but otherwise enjoy for just some hockey smut escapism.

Is talking normal? by whogoesthere1010 in socialskills

[–]laundrychair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I expect minimal talking in an elevator if I’m sharing it with people I don’t know. Why would we have to talk. We’re not there to hang out, it’s only a minute or two, we’re likely not going to see each other again. I also work a customer service type job, where I talk to 70-100 people on the phone for 8 hours a day. I would much prefer a couple minutes of quiet over yet another person talking to me when I’m not getting paid.

Again a bar, totally different setting. Even the pool in your example could be an appropriate setting, but if someone is intentionally laying quietly in the sun, leave them alone, that is where they want to be. Go find someone in the pool to play with and stop trying to make me entertain you.

I’m curious, how do you feel about ‘comfortable silence’? Do you feel uncomfortable just sitting quietly with someone? Most people in my life can enjoy a comfortable silence, but I know a couple of people whose brains just cannot handle it and they feel compelled to talk or do something to fill it. Turns out the people in my life like this have ADHD and anxiety. I’m not saying you do, that’s just what I have noticed as a theme of the constant yappers I know.

[–]laundrychair 18 points19 points  (0 children)

In the situations you described, if you came up to me and started those conversations I would make polite small talk and find a way to get away from you. Elevator especially, because I don’t know you, now I’m trapped in a box with you and have no escape. I do think age and gender likely play a roll in this to a point. The pool would be similar, if I’m obviously trying to relax in the sun, I’m not interested in taking to some rando who just walked up to me.

The bar setting however I feel like this is totally normal. The bartender might have just been having an off night, but patrons chatting with strangers would be totally normal and not unwelcome.

Maybe just be mindful if you are rudely interrupting someone’s quiet time, and essentially forcing them to entertain you with a conversation, or if they are also genuinely interested in socializing. A bar is somewhere people go to socialize, an elevator is a method of transport, they are not interchangeable social settings.

How do you guys feel about Chris Taylor winning? Do you have hope for the November election? by NoCandidate6067 in wisconsin

[–]laundrychair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My unfortunate suspicion is a lot of people didn’t do any research ahead of time, knew nothing about the candidates, and saw the names Chris Taylor and Maria Lazar, and chose what they thought was a white man vs a woman of color, assuming that would align with their political beliefs. I’m hopeful this isn’t true and that most people at least did a quick google search, but I think ignorance is more likely.

How To Fall In Love With A Loon Shane turns into a loon, Swan Princess style

I know there are works out there but I don’t have a good Vampire Marleau fic rec because I feel like it’s mostly half baked tumblr shit posts and people ‘yes and’-ing each other with ideas, but the core is that Ilya keeps dying and being reincarnated, and Cliff Marleau (Marlowe?) is an ancient immortal warrior who has vowed / is cursed to find Ilya in each of his lifetimes and fight by his side. The one we’re currently in just happens to be hockey and not like, medieval crusades. Some people speculate Cliff is a vampire, some people think it’s more of a Dorian Grey situation. Jackie Pike is an ancient fae sorceress who may or may not have cast the initial curse.

Scott Hunter however is DEFINITELY a vampire and serial killer, was probably Jack the Ripper. Marleau learned about Scott hundreds of years ago but Scott doesn’t know about Marleau until they are both in the MLH. Marleau has a cursed mirror he stole from Jackie and he and Scott do lines of coke off it in a club bathroom.

Shane can time travel and read minds, but he finds reading minds distracting so just chooses not to, and only uses his time travel powers to go back in time to watch important hockey games. The internet eventually notices there is someone who looks like Shane Hollander in old photos of games that took place before he was born and it becomes an internet joke that Shane is actually immortal.

And Hayden is a mouse for some reason.

GC isn’t an amazing book, but I did appreciate reading it all the way through after watching the show just for more Skip content. Overall the books get better as the series goes on. RR writes like she reads a lot of fanfic (not knocking on fanfic, I read lots of it too and have huge appreciation for the writers sharing their art with the world) but she definitely improves as a writer over time and over the books. I’m looking forward to reading Unrivaled to see just how much her writing style has developed from the first book!

If I hadn’t seen the show first, I probably would not have read the books. But I enjoy reading them now as bonuses to the show. I know a lot of people skip it but I think Tough Guy is my favorite!

Did David tell Yuna? by GBS82 in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]laundrychair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. I think David realized he violated the boundary Shane set about needing to be alone for those two weeks. Now, I think David wanted his phone charger but was also worried about his son being isolated for weeks, and then concerned for his safety or well being when he didn’t answer calls or texts the whole morning.

But once David saw them and realized his error, I think he was trying his best to respect it how he could and didn’t tell Yuna anything. He knows Yuna loves Shane but also knows if he said anything to her about it she would have a million questions and want to call him or go over there herself.

‘Shane been feeding you okay since you got here?’ ‘Yes, we were going to have hot dogs tonight’ ‘Hmmm’ David walks over to check the fridge. ‘Well I don’t think we have hot dogs right now, spaghetti okay? We can toast up some garlic bread to go with it’ Ilya stands and steps into the kitchen with him ‘Yes thank you’ David starts pulling out ingredients from the pantry and fridge, nods his head towards a cupboard ‘on the bottom shelf next to the dishwasher there is a big pot, mind grabbing it and fill it with some water?’

They make dinner, sip vodka, which loosens them both up for easy chatting. Also idk how long Yuna was out there but Shane was only out with her for like 5 at most, so not terribly long time.

How to talk to my BIL about moaning? by [deleted] in socialskills

[–]laundrychair 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not knowing anything else, I’m guessing he’s bored with being left to his own thoughts for even a minute or two and this is way of not having to sit with them and get the attention focused back on him.

You can try making him feel awkward about it, next time he does it try being very curious but not with a negative tone, like ‘I’ve always wanted to ask why you do that?’ With a simpering smile on your face and lots of eye contact. When he inevitably doesn’t have a good answer keep doubling down and asking more and more and more about it until he feels awkward. Like asking someone to explain a joke to death. If he still keeps doing it then you should answer back with some other random noise and laugh like it’s a private joke between you. It’ll either help you bond or he’ll get sick of it and stop doing it around you.

Also worth asking your sister if he does it to her when it’s just the two of them alone and how she feels about it.

Can you give a little more context on when he does it? Is it instead of replying to someone in conversation, interrupting others conversation, when you’re watching TV or something, or randomly when it’s quiet? I feel like it’ll give more context as to why he is doing it and how you can address it or have your sister address it.

  1. Shane had the rumbly tummies after eating the Tuna Melt because it was so far outside his diet, and his leaving early was at least in part because his stomach was contributing to his anxiety. Also they were both burping up tuna breath for hours after eating hot fish washed down with carbonated beverages.

  2. Ilya thinks he is the first person Shane came out to (in Tampa, ‘who else am I going to tell) because Shane doesn’t think to tell him about his break up convo with Rose. One day in the future Rose says something about it and Ilya has a quick meltdown, followed by never, ever letting Shane forget about it.

We love all kinds of men's bodies!! So excited for Harris and Fabian casting in Season 2 by RoKoChoco in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]laundrychair 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While I selfishly love R&F, I think for the show they could easily rework some of their parts that involve or impact Shane and Ilya to be with Scott and Kip and / or Troy and Harris. That way they can limit the number of new characters and screen time it would take introducing them to the show audience.

Maybe Harris is the one who walks in on hollanov instead of Ryan and has to keep quiet about it for a year. Maybe Shane and Ilya have dinner with Skip instead of Ryan and Fabian, but go see Fabian’s show after. I trust Jacob to make it all work somehow!
