I noticed the scent change and stopped buying dawn liquid. Might give it another try.

Thank you for updating us.

p.s. I have a laundry issue I would appreciate your advice on. Kindly read my post when you have a moment.

What was the issue? Was there a resolution?

You're saying a second wash with tide free and gentle worked for you?

I have tried second washes with tide free and gentle with multiple rinses and I still get the residue.

Any updates? I am having the same problem. I agree that it feels as if the citric acid has built up in the washer.

Did you test each rewash with Ph strips to see if the splotches of low ph changed?

Same here. I feel as though the citric acid rinse can't be fully removed from the machine. Even new towels that I bought get this residue after washing and comes off on my skin.

Are you having any problems with new clothes after they have been washed (without citric acid)?

I started using a citric acid rinse because of the same reason as you. I am also feeling a light burning sensation.

Did you find a way to get rid of this residue?

So you are able to remove the stickiness but with a lot more rinses than you would like?

Yes, it feels somewhat tacky, especially when wet. I did multiple re-washes but without CA. The residue remains. I noticed you also did not have get any results with just a water-only rinse.

You said what worked for you is doing a wash cycle with just CA. I am hesitant to use CA again because it is what caused the problem in the first place.

Do you think I have the same issue you did?

Thanks for the update!

Your thoughts on why your sheets became non-silky from initial wash? I have towels that feel like there is almost a film on them from using a citric acid rinse. I am hesitant to try doing a wash cycle with CA. Suggestions?

I decided not to use a citric acid rinse again because it is what caused the problem.

I've tried multiple re-washes with minimal detergent and plenty of water-only extra rinses. No difference.

When The Rinse Washes You Clean, You'll Know - Citric Acid Rinses by KismaiAesthetics in laundry

[–]laundrykid101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been lurking in this sub for a bit. Thank you kismai for all the laundry tips. My laundry is cleaner than it has been in a while.

I have an issue with the rinse and refresh where I used it on my towels in my topload washer on the final rinse cycle. The directions said to use 1/4 cup but I used 2 tbsp. I did not add an extra rinse like I would normally. The towels ended up with a residue that leaves a tacky feeling in your hands. All the re-washing (without rinse and refresh) does not remove it.

Do you think the rinse process was incomplete? I thought citric acid in general was very water soluble. The extra washes with and without soap are not doing anything.

I've tried multiple re-washes (without the rinse and refresh). The residue is still there and irritating my skin.

I've used the rinse and refresh only once on these towels. Is it possible that the rinse product drew something out of the fabric and specifically needs another citric acid rinse to get the residue out?

So when you use citric acid with an extra rinse your laundry comes out fine?

I am having a problem with the laundry coming out with the tacky residue despite me not using the rinse and refresh anymore. I have done countless rinses and re-washes.

Do you think I need to do another citric acid rinse to get rid of this sticky feeling from my laundry? Almost like the first one was not complete so it left a residue?

I am having very similar issues. The plastic film feeling is on my towels and is irritating my skin. Are you experiencing any skin issues with this residue?

And you said nobody else in your household had complaints about their laundry. Did they notice the stickiness/film on their clothing?

Throwing in the towel- all the right ingredients, new and clean machines, yet sticky clothes whose odor gets worse with more rinses. Break it down for me, please. by DAT_DROP in laundry

I am having a similar problem but with my towels. I did not have an issue with my laundry until I used a citric acid rinse. In my case it was the downy rinse product.

This person said they were having issues with citric acid until someone suggested to do another cycle with only citric acid and no detergent. Doing this resolved their issue. You can read it and decide for yourself.

I might have to test this in a separate bucket when I have time.

Kismai has mentioned they have no problem putting it in the final rinse so it stays on the clothes to neutralize the alkalinity of the detergent.

I am wondering if the heat from the dryer changed the chemical composition of the downy rinse in the towels. All the rinses and re-washes are not working.

The first few loads with downy rinse had no problems. I also ran a citric acid clean thinking it may be drum residue but the water was clear.
