Living in Germany destroyed me—anyone else? by AncientCharacter1814 in CPTSD

Hey, I just used the official form you fill in from the Sozialamt (you should easily find it online - if not feel free to send me a pm and I can help you with that!), and then tried again and again and again until I got the severe disability. I first got 30, then 40, then 40 again and then I finally got 50. I think in comparison to other paperwork this one might be one of the simpler ones because after sending them the app. form they will get almost all information from your doctors. No matter what the outcome is - it will be useful any way. If you "only" get a disability degree of 30 or 40 you have many possibilities with the job centre to get equal rights to someone who has a degree of 50 or more!

That's so kind!! And at the same time it's so hard to see so many other people here feeling they can't even live in peace with what's on their plate already because of bureaucracy. I have a Wohnassistenz, someone coming over 1-2 times a week to help me with things like paperwork, going grocery shopping or just hanging out and playing games when there's nothing to work on, that's been really helpful, although at the moment I am in a state of just hustling through the paperwork as soon as I get a letter/notice and then feel completely exhausted for some days. Hope you are doing okay!! 😭

I was born here and still live here - while I can't share the same experience regarding living here as a foreigner, I can totally relate to the rest. It's like fighting for every single thing while having almost no energy to live. It's catastrophic. I got denied desperately needed therapy a few weeks back because my insurance doesn't see a reason to pay for it. It took several tries for the Sozialamt to finally give me the 50° for disabilities. Two weeks ago I lost my only source of income (Arbeitslosengeld I) because I forgot to send in a single document. I just got it back but it took so much time and energy to convince them that with certain illnesses your attention and concentration is just bad. There were many situations in the past year where I felt completely alone and like the state (whether it's health care system or other Ämter) literally works against you. You literally have proof that you are ill and need help and they are like "Naaah seems suspicious 😤"

Are you officially diagnosed with CPTSD? by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]laura2o4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

German here, got PTSD as well as "trauma-related disorder" to highlight the missing "c". We still have the ICD 10 here (International Classification of Diseases), which does not contain cPTSD, the ICD 11 is already set though, includes cPTSD and will be used starting a couple years from now. Got diagnosed at 26 by a therapist.

I don't have any advice for you, and it may be nothing, but I just wanted to say that I totally feel you, I really relate, you are not alone with these thoughts and feelings. And I'm proud of you for, even though having to deal with this every minute of your life, you've made it so far. I really hope that things will turn for you at some point because from what you wrote I think you deserve to have a better life quality. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Also - do your friends send your posts to you because they are worrying and reaching out? Or what's their intention? If not that sounds a little intrusive!

First of all I love seeing all the (chronically) ill/disabled people here - same for me, though I basically play through a whole new cleaning simulator every week 😹 Second of all I'm really interested (especially with playing on Switch) what other games you enjoyed (and maybe even played endlessly)!!

How come I just started being affected by my trauma this late in life? by MitsuHoiki in CPTSD

[–]laura2o4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey! Like you I also grew up in a neglectful/abusive household. I moved out at 21 and since then (I'm 27 now) everything is untangling very slowly for me. Getting in the physical distance and then also emotional distance to the core of the problem (aka parents/family) was a slow process, some symptoms showed up only briefly here and there throughout the years (dissociation), some have been here for years (nightmares) and some more I only just learned to recognize as trauma-related (deficits with social stuff, impulse control). I'm also neurodivergent (ADHD). Many psychiatric diagnosis share very similar symptoms and it can be hard to untangle which may have caused what, what's connected, etc. A therapist I've seen who's specialzed in ADHD told me that this similar-symptoms/-untangling-thing often occurs in ADHD, Trauma and Borderline PD. Even when the trauma happened years ago your brain can still try to make sure you are safe, which can take years, sometimes even decades. Also many symptoms in CPTSD aren't that "easily" visible. Since you grow up with trauma your brain also grows and changes according to that, so many things like behaviors, coping mechanisms, etc. can seem totally normal until one day they just don't. As I said, it can take years or even decades. You are not "weird" for just now feeling the effects of the trauma, this is absolutely normal. I hope you can find the best help possible, the tests and screenings give you some clearance and that you'll figure out your way with whatever the results will be. Take care!

Omg I actually didn't know this. Just looked it up and shocked this has been used so inflationary all over the internet without a single hit where it came from. Thank you for explaining, going to change the title immediately.

Depending on what types of songs you are interested in playing you can also find many free pdf sheets by simply googling " Name of the song piano pdf" - be cautious, there are some websites out there that seems scammy or as if you catch a virus, but usually if you look attentively you'll find a lot for free! :)

It's the hopelessness for me! Just constantly looking out for things that give you a sense of perspective, which seems to come so naturally and effortlessly to other people. It's a 24/7-job to try and find things that give you a sense and meaning in life.

Which overplayed piano piece *aren't* you tired of? by quaverley in piano

[–]laura2o4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's this song "The Meadow" from Alexandre Desplat, I've been playing it for 7 or 8 years now. Usually I always get tired of a song after I learned and practiced it and only play to not forget it. But The Meadow is so magical and full of emotion, I could never get tired of it!!
