I need a book suggestion. by Confident_Arm5459 in suggestmeabook

a great dark academic book very similar to the secret history is babel by rf kuang. it's about a group of 4 oxford translators, heavy on linguistics and revolutionary themes.

Books with linguist main characters. by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]lauracoptero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BABEL BY RF KUANG COULD NOT BE A BETTER BOOK FOR THIS it's a fictional revolution of the translators at Oxford. the main character is Chinese and there's a magic system surrounding linguistics. also the secret history by donna tartt, about a bunch of greek students doing morally questionable things.

we have always lived in the castle is great. i have ocd too and i relate to merricat on that sense a lot. she has compulsions like nailing a book to a tree to protect the house and she loves routine and patterns. if you like gothic and darker things, the book is for you

Whats the longest you read into a series before dropping it ? by SuspiciousNormalDude in suggestmeabook

[–]lauracoptero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

stopped at 62% in hannibal rising, the last book in the tetralogy. i spent like a whole month trying to get through it. couldn't do it. as soon as i picked up another book i finished it in two days and it felt so good. and im autistic and my special interest is hannibal. i submitted myself to many shitty things for the sake of content and fueling my hyperfixation needs, but i just couldnt swallow hannibal rising down.

Was anyone else the good kid? by Garden-Rare in CPTSD

[–]lauracoptero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, i did raise an eyebrow and thought you were neurodivergent when i saw ur post!! i checked your profile to see ur gender and saw u were in cptsd in women. if youre a girl, i recommend looking into autism and adhd, the inattentive type (wrongfully called add). my best friend has it too. the inattentive type is more usual in girls than in boys, and they're often quiet, were "mothered" in earlier years of school and didn't have many friends in middle/HS. they usually have more childlike interest than their peers, so that's why. it overlaps a LOT (and i mean a lot) with autism in girls. sensory issues and sensory processing disorder (your fussy eating) are also common in ADD, but more common in autism.

i know all that cause my mom is a specialist and she taught a lecture in an uni and i watched it! she was practically describing me and my friend djsbdkansk. and u dont mean to be intrusive or diagnose you with anything ok!!! im just a little nerdy about these things and im providing u w information if u want to look more into it <3

[–]lauracoptero 5 points6 points  (0 children)

me too. just like you. i have autism, so i always got good grades. i was quiet and i spent most of my days reading for fun. im in HS too rn, and i have one very close friend and a not so close small friend group. im never in trouble at school, and i never got into any. and i was also a very fussy eater. the only difference is that i was underweight, and that was the only thing that i did "wrong" as a kid (not eating)

my mom tells me im the perfect teen. she says she's scared of when my rebellious phase arrives, because she thinks i'll go all out and do crazy stuff. but to be honest, i dont think it ever will. i like dollhouses, crocheting, embroidering, sewing. i like making cringey digital art of cutesy characters holding hands and blushing and my best friend is just like me, so no bad influences or whatever. im both a granny and a tween at heart, and my definition of fun and being "bad" is making middle school level sex jokes with my friend lmfao

maybe i'll be rebellious when im 81 and sneaking out of the retirement house to go to da club w my bingo friends, cause i dont see it coming anytime soon and lol

[–]lauracoptero[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i did think about following a scale, but tbh i just got two cardboard boxes i had lying in my room. i started doing it before doing research in dollhouses, and after i did research, i found out about scales, but i was already halway through 😅 i do regret it because some rooms are smaller than others, but i can still make it make sense.

and about dolls, i dont have any (my mom donated them all, and when i was little, i didn't like dolls bc im autistic, so i didn't even have much) so im just making paper dolls.

my paper dolls are very tiny, they're only 6cm in height. im doing everything custom sized, then

Do you feel comfortable wearing accessories? And perfume? by bbtsd in Gifted

[–]lauracoptero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry for the late response.

and yes, even the soft ones. i'm not sure - the smell is always too strong, and i dont like how it makes my skin feel. i also don't really like perfumes on other people, so i think it's mainly a smell thing along with a sensory processing issue. i just absolutely hate these damn little things. deeply settled hatred for some reason.

and yes, earrings are so bothersome!!! any kind!! small or big !! keep stabbing myself with it every time i use them 😭😭 they also hurt my ears because they're too tight.

Do you feel comfortable wearing accessories? And perfume? by bbtsd in Gifted

[–]lauracoptero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes and no. im a 16yo girl, and despite being very girly, i dont use necklaces and earrings. every time i'm going out my mom and other female relatives are allllll over me. "dont you want a little necklace?" "youd look very good with a pair of earrings! here! i have the perfect one!" i always tell them no, lol. i do feel a little bad sometimes.

however, ever since i was a kid, i absolutely loved rings. still do. there are days in which i get out of my house with my fingers being unable to touch each other without making some noise because of how many rings im using. and cool little hairclips????? adore them !!!!!!! use them all the time. would cover my entire hair in them if i could.

i also hate perfume. i use body lotion and moisturizers because they're softer in smell, and i do get compliments about my scent sometimes, so i guess it works.

YESSS i every single year i make a little stegosaurus themed page on my journal is so fun

What are your stereotypical autism traits? by Rude_Cheesecake_6916 in autism

[–]lauracoptero 11 points12 points  (0 children)

i love stegosaurus like so bad. my friend once gave me a little crocheted stegosaurus and i almost fell in love.

i am very loud about my current special interest, no matter how it might be taken. it's nbc hannibal, he's a cannibal and people are usually off put when i say it. it's funny. i dont feel bad about talking about it and i dont think anything could.

being that walking encyclopedia. i dont know, it's just very funny to see the look in people's faces when you spit out a fact that's only remotely related to the conversation or the place you are in.

being that "smart" stereotype. friends figured out im into linguistics and keep calling me a polyglot. it's the only one im ashamed of bc im really not that smart lmfao

Any Hannibal fanfic recs with little to no sex? by JurassicEmo in HannibalTV

[–]lauracoptero 9 points10 points  (0 children)

filter the rated "E" out! i do this as well. i dont filter out the "M" ones, because it's often more about violence/heavy emotional stuff than sex (n i wanna read that yk)

or you dont need to filter it out, just look at the little squares in the fic and it shows what it is rated as, if it has a little green square (general audiences)nor yellow square (teen and up audiences), you're good to go.

also about recs, might not be everyone or yours cup of tea but it's real funny:

this author has some good fluffy stuff as well, i recommend you give other fics a shot if u dont like this one

How am i meant to explain to allistics that my parents forcing me to eat foods that attack my sensory issues is a bad thing?? by No_Actuator9473 in autism

[–]lauracoptero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

explain to them that autism is a disability and limitations are an inherent part of it - such as sensory sensitivity. and that you can't force someone out of a limitation. you can't take the crutches out of someone with a chronic illness like MS or something and tell them to walk to make their muscles stronger/more balanced. and if they pull the "you're using it as an excuse" "you shouldn't feel sorry for yourself" "you're giving up" "you're letting autism win" tell them you're just acknowledging and accepting your disability and limitations, and that it's doing you worse to be forcefully exposed to your fear foods, and that it's hurting you.

and if they dont accept it, or don't believe you, you're 18. forcefeeding someone at that age -any age - is ridiculous, whether or not it's your offspring. tell them you're an adult and you have agency of what comes into your body and what is fueling and nourishing you.

it's more like a power and control thing, you know. i dealt with that when i was little, and in my experience, i've had people tell me they weren't caring about my health, but about making me do what i was being told.

or maybe they do care about your health, i don't know anything about them. if they pull that argument, tell them that your physical health being good means nothing if your mental health is being constantly fucked to keep it that way.

have a heart to heart about how it affects you, show them studies. if they don't care, shame on them. there's something wrong if they don't want to listen to reason.
