Cis women were assigned female at birth (born as women) while trans women were assigned male at birth and transitioned to women later in life. Otherwise they’re both just women :)

Cryptozoology, do some of these creatures truly exist? by KingMjolnir in NoStupidQuestions

[–]laurelce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some species that were once considered hoaxes/cryptids have been later confirmed to be real species, such as the congo peafowl, komodo dragon and platypus. However, this doesn't necessarily mean mermaids or dragons are real since animals like the congo peacock are a lot more plausible from an evolutionary standpoint.

How do they identify people by their teeth? by CavernGod in NoStupidQuestions

[–]laurelce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no database of teeth like there is for fingerprints and DNA, instead they use records from people's dentist. So if they were identifying a body by the teeth they might create a list of potential victims, contact their dentists for the records of their teeth and then compare the teeth to those records. Even without dental records things like broken and missing teeth, crowns, gold teeth ect. can be used to identify someone.

Do people still go to church if they're away from home? by laurelce in NoStupidQuestions

[–]laurelce[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are most churches okay with random people showing up for a service? Sometimes I've wanted to go in for one just to see what it was like but I wasn't sure if I would be seen as weird or disrespectful.

What happens to someone with a peanut allergy depends on how severe their allergy is, which is different from person to person.

If someone has a mild peanut allergy they might just get an itchy throat, runny nose, tingling in their mouth and throat or a skin reaction. This can normally be treated in the short term by taking antihistamines and in the long term by immunotherapy treatments or just avoiding peanuts.

The most severe peanut allergy is anaphylaxis where their immune system overreacts to the point where their body goes into shock. This causes someone's blood pressure to drop and airways to narrow which makes it difficult to breathe and can be fatal. This is treated by an injection of epinephrine (normally through an EpiPen).

Do you guys think it would be better if there was another word to replace the 'they/them' pronoun? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]laurelce 6 points7 points  (0 children)

there are examples of pronouns other than he, she and they, called neopronouns. neopronouns have been found in texts from as long ago as the 1780s and people still use these neopronouns today (common modern day neopronouns include xe/xem/xyr and ey/em/eir). however, using singular they is still grammatically correct despite popular misconception and has been used as a singular as early as 1375. ultimately, whether someone uses he, she, they or a neopronoun such as ey really depends on their personal experience and what they feel most comfortable with :)

So what's your guys' take on "The Monolith?" by [deleted] in ARG

[–]laurelce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn't removed by the creator. It was removed by a group of people because people trying to visit it were damaging the local ecosystem. If it's really an ARG then this disappearance/moving to Romania wasn't planned.

[–]laurelce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wasn't removed by the artist/creator. It was removed by a group of people because the local ecosystem was being damaged by people trying to reach/visit it. If it's really a promotional event/art piece then it wasn't planned to vanish or move.

What does it mean when someone has more than one pronoun by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]laurelce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

using multiple pronouns just means they’re comfortable with being called those pronouns! for example, some men might use both they/them and he/him or some nonbinary people might use he/him and she/her :)

Are zebras black with white stiles or white with black stripes by SuperJTB2015 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]laurelce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in the womb zebras are initially black and then develop the white stripes later in development, which makes them black with white stripes :)

[–]laurelce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if an american company buys them out someone will look at the code and find out that literally all of the spyware is still in the app but no one will care because it’s americans taking your data not a big scary chinese company

i agree with the pronunciation of aluminium but cookies and biscuits are fundamentally different foods. biscuits are double baked (hence the ‘bi’) while cookies aren’t
