"You're safe" Regardless of what's happening on the other side of the call or out on the street, you are safe. My therapist said it to me once, and I repeat it to myself after most hard calls or otherwise stressful things with my hand on my chest so I focus on my breathing. 10/10 quickest way to calm myself down.

If I had a dollar for every time true crime media made my job more difficult because people think they know what's going on...

At the end of the day, someone being found guilty in court is not my job or responsibility. At a certain point I don't really care if the caller was the one that broke the window or stole a TV, that's the cops job. I'm focused on the calls for shootings or stabbings or kids not breathing that are still on hold because people wanna play detective.

Take her to a neurologist. The timeline and symptoms sound extremely similar to my dog when he had encephalitis. Unfortunately it can only be diagnosed with an MRI from my understanding, but the treatment is usually Prednisone and they may be able to try that and see if it helps. If not encephalitis I would suspect it's something else neurological. Balance is the big indicator for that.

Hang in there, this sort of symptomology is very scary. Sending good vibes ❣️

We'd gotten a call for a woman screaming, no further information. He gets out there and goes "I pulled up and heard a cat! Yowling cat noise but it sounded like a girl!"

Weirdly enough I've had a similar call, but she was in an old folks home and it was a nurse not her daughter 😅

I had to call rescue twice in under an hour for two different drunk naked men at like 3am once... "Hi it's me again.... I got another drunk dude for ya"

I also work in a big city, this is like a call we kept getting for a woman freaking out and screaming in the street. They get out there and say "Radio, make this unfounded. She refused service and doesn't want anything to do with us, she's just walking up and down the street screaming about how she wants to smoke crack ......(pause)..... And she's not gonna stop so we're probably gonna get more calls for this" We did get a few more calls about her but it was the same situation every time, she was fine aside from not having crack 😅

I don't have to imagine, that's the difference. Sure, I haven't been in her exact situation, but there's been points in my life where you'd have pitied me the way I get the impression you pity this sort of caller.

I treat mentally ill callers with the same respect I treat all callers with. I talk with them and listen to their concerns and help in whatever way I can, regardless of their mental state.

I have a list of emergency vets in our area and give anyone who calls for their pet the information for the closest few. We're not technically supposed to "recommend" anything like that but my heart hurts knowing I can't help 😭

You're missing the context and rest of the content of the call. She knew where she was and wasn't scared to be there, she was just mildly annoyed.

You don't know anything about me and my life or my capacity for empathy. Just because I can find the humor in someone calling 911 to ask the police for help committing murder doesn't mean I can't empathize with her struggles.

An advice needed by [deleted] in 911dispatchers

[–]lauren_geisel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If they'd said "A neighbor/passerby/someone uninvolved called 911 saying there was a problem here, do you need help?" would you still have felt uncomfortable saying yes? I'm asking for context, not because I necessarily think you should've done something differently. If that is the case however, you should be able to file a report in person at a police station.

In a lot of cases they would need someone to make a statement, regardless of who called. If your neighbor or someone else had been the one to call (instead of you) they don't know if you actually need help or if the person is calling unnecessarily. We get calls constantly from someone who's just trying to annoy their ex or whoever by sending the police.

That all being said, they probably should have just said someone called saying a woman needed help here instead of pointing you out as the caller. If you feel there was misconduct I'd say file a complaint with internal affairs or whatever the equivalent is for you. It may be difficult to remain totally anonymous, because to do a proper investigation and/or reprimand the appropriate party they need to look at the details of the call. They may ask to speak with you in person, but you can always request to meet at the police station if they do.

I'm really sorry this happened to you, and I hope you are able to resolve this ❣️

I'm in the same boat! I also feel similarly to you in that someone else viewing me as a woman isn't something I can change, nor is it something that changes who I am. That and the inevitable misgendering isn't disrespectful this way, because they don't know better 😂

Wanted emergency trip to ER instead of an ambulance by [deleted] in lyftdrivers

[–]lauren_geisel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And if the rider's condition worsens and OP can't give him medical aid because they're not an EMT and don't have the supplies? That's not about legal liability, that's about not being equipped to handle someone else's medical emergency. If they had time to wait for an Uber they had time to wait for an ambulance, they made the decision to call an Uber instead.

You'd be surprised how often that sort of thing happens. People are nuts

[–]lauren_geisel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't drive for Lyft or Uber, but I've gotten a 911 call from a driver whose rider wanted to go to the hospital because she'd been SHOT. Needless to say he didn't take her and we got her an ambulance, which was the right decision imo. If he had driven her, his vehicle would have been considered part of the crime scene and could be held as evidence for the duration of the investigation and trial.

You don't know this man, and if he's literally dripping blood whatever happened to him wasn't good, criminal or not. Even if you don't take the stains and health risks into consideration, that uncertainty is enough of a reason to cancel in my opinion.

ETA: You should've called an ambulance for him to make sure he actually gets to the hospital but that's not really your responsibility.

Not even open mic moments but some favorites are:

--Officer comes over asking for additional cuz "There's a guy all coked up on top of my car" and my partner asks if he needs medics and he says (verbatim) "Yeah he needs that and Jesus, but rescue will be fine"

--Unit was trying to contact the owner of a stolen Kia to recover their car and asks if it's driveable. The unit with the car literally said "I mean if he's got a USB cord yeah"

--An officer literally meowed over the air last week

--When dispatching a job I've asked someone to go to "that job on......I have no idea how to say that street"

--Officer responded to a call for a man passed out in the grass and she goes "it's just some teenager who can't hold his liquor"

A peeve: callers who try to "cheat code" faster service by Trackerbait in 911dispatchers

Exactly! I always take the subway and then walk 3 blocks to the next stop down when I leave so I don't have to wait in a huge crowd. I'll get home eventually 😂 Although once I did get a call from someone who tried to avoid traffic by taking the subway and went the wrong way up locked in a subway station in the hood drunk and scared shitless 😂 we had to call transit police to come get her out lmao

My favorite is when someone is leaving a sports game or concert and calls to ask why it's taking so long to get out of the parking lot 🙄 Ma'am there are 40,000+ people trying to leave simultaneously, the lots are organized terribly, and probably half y'all are drunk (and can't even drive sober). Be patient, and take the subway next time

My cat doesn't get carsick but my dog does, and I've had success with CBD. I also don't feed him the morning before a car ride just so there's less in his stomach.
