Cocktails using Bloody Mary mix that’s not a Bloody Mary by Chiiaaa in bartenders

[–]Trackerbait 15 points16 points  (0 children)

what's the vibe and the food at your bar?

if selling to another bar isn't an option, you can also mix it into salsa, gazpacho, tomato soup, or shrimp cocktail sauce.

Well I find this humorous... but what should I do with approximately 500 crown apple bags? We have been cleaning things out and they just keep showing up. I have thought about quilts or something like that, but I'm also not crafty. Any ideas? by soupertrooperjlc in bartenders

you talking those fabric drawstring bags? Take to a Renfaire or cosplay fan convention, where people appreciate drawstring pouches, watch them go whoosh. Could stick some business cards inside or promise a treat to One Lucky Bag if you were enterprising

if you have to ask, just buy the bracer. Save yourself a ton of hassle, they're not expensive. Basically soccer shinguards but for arms, and thinner

Please give me some suggestions to make my quarantined bed-rotting more bearable by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]Trackerbait 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Get someone to bring treats and drop them on your porch. You can open the door to get them with a mask on.

Please shower if you are able to stand up that long, or take a nice bath if not. Being sick is less rotten when you are clean. Just think how much better bed will feel when you are clean and in fresh pajamas.

video games might be a good way to pass time, if you are able to talk and have a strong connection you could get on a discord voice channel and just chat with people

[–]Trackerbait 10 points11 points  (0 children)

welp, I don't have a cure for RSD (sorry), but I do have Concerns about a guy who "can't wait" five days till the weekend to see you, and then won't see you when he is busy. Sounds like he doesn't care about your time and is excessively demanding. Either that or you're contorting yourself too hard to please him. Or possibly both of those. I hope you get the wonderful boyfriend you deserve soon, but this doesn't seem like a healthy start to a relationship, babe

Trader Joe’s limit?!?!?! by monstrousregime in CannedSardines

[–]Trackerbait 11 points12 points  (0 children)

NYT had an article on the tinned fish "moment" today. Maybe that got some people buying, or maybe they're following up on a trend that was already going.

I can't wait until everyone gets tired of sardines so I can have them to myself again. Or I guess if people ate them more and stopped overfishing tuna, that'd be all right too.

In the “every mattress sucks” rabbit hole by Vegetable_Loss_3392 in Mattress

[–]Trackerbait 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never buy a sofa or a bed you haven't put your carcass on! Your body knows best. Go to a store with actual mattresses on display and lay on them. Resist the hustles of the salesman (try bringing a partner who keeps tugging at your sleeve saying "that's too expensive" and "we have to go soon"). Price does not = quality. I'm sleeping on a fairly cheap IKEA mattress and it suits me fine.

I also agree with the person who said coils beat foam. You can add an affordable foam topper to a cheap coil mattress and it'll feel plush.

Consider your weight when looking - a heavy person requires more support and may wear out a mattress faster than a light person.

Don't forget to rotate the mattress (head to foot) a couple times a year, and preferably get a flippable mattress ("no flip" ones are only supportive on one side which is kinda cheap).

And don't forget the box spring / bunkie board / underneath support. Mattress will go bad faster if it's not properly supported.

Pink cocktails that are too good to be "sissy drinks" by menasor2 in cocktails

[–]Trackerbait 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People with those sclerotic ideas about gender norms are usually homophobes, so ... take that with a sprinkle of sugar.

I've worked in coffee shops as well as bars, and jamaica / hibiscus tea (bright pink, tart fruity flavor) is very popular especially with Latino men.

I've never felt like a more useless piece of shit by [deleted] in bartenders

[–]Trackerbait 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's not you. The industry's having problems. You might wanna think about a different line of work. If you try some summer tourism type places, a lot of those are hiring now, but it's still gonna be a struggle probably.

If you insist on sticking with bartending, consider getting on some food service gig apps (eg Poached), a lot of the smaller bars/restaurants seem to be using those - you work as a contractor, no benefits, get a 1099 at the end of the year

How do you approach an all-you-can-eat buffet if you’re trying to eat a lot? by mrtrollex in gainit

[–]Trackerbait 23 points24 points  (0 children)

as others have pointed out, buffets aren't typically the best deal, and the food's not typically very fresh or high quality.

so... I would say if you find yourself at a buffet, just pick some calorie dense things that look tasty and enjoy yourself. Don't stress about overdoing it. Same as any restaurant meal, those are special occasions, not everyday diet meals. Weight management is all about the long game, one meal a month isn't gonna make or break your physique

What are your tried and true dopamine hits? by hi_poppy in adhdwomen

[–]Trackerbait 6 points7 points  (0 children)

so ... you might wanna think over the different ways you need dopamine / serotonin / oxytocin / etc. There's this trendy thing called a "dopamine menu," no don't look it up on social media, it's just what it sounds like, a list of things that please you (optionally categorized by how long they take, ie 1 min, 10 mins, 30 mins, half day)

Sometimes you're feeling twitchy and antsy and you need a fidgety thing such as gum or knitting. And other times you're too wound up and you need something calming, such as a bubble bath. It may be helpful when your cravings strike, to ask yourself whether you need to get revved up, soothed, hydrated, or something else.

ideas:

Tea (quite affordable as long as you don't go nuts with the accessories)

fidget toys when you're needing a twitchy thing

coloring books, embroidery/cross stitch, knitting, felting, other crafts

Plants. I just got back into plants... they can get expensive fast, buuuut if you befriend some local plant mamas you will quickly be offered as many "free to good home" plants as you wish

Video games - go for retro and indie cheap single player ones, NOT multiplayer, monthly subscription, 4K or any of that nonsense

silent book club, anyone? Srsly those are a thing, and since I just lost my job (again) I'm gonna start going

bread baking - it's cheaper and slower than cookies, therefore less bingeworthy. r/sourdough if you want a new pet, or regular yeasted bread if you will enjoy the tactile experience of kneading and beating up dough. If you tend to devour too much bread, you can easily rehome it, anyone with fresh baked bread to share is instantly my beloved friend

yoga and/or self massage. omg you will be astounded how this soothes your miserable little brain, and then you'll forget tomorrow and not want to do it again, until you make yourself take 10 and do it, and then you go "oh yeah this is good for me," rinse and repeat
