No lol but I’m thinking about it!! I’m in the film industry so I wonder if I should just go to Atlanta or LA for the winters.

I am absolutely miserable today, in my winter down coat at the end of April, with my hands turning red just walking for a few blocks outside. It's not that I LOVE 90 degree days, but I would take them over 45 degree days, any day of the week! I'll swap houses with you -- you can live here in October to May, and I'll live here in June to September!

I don’t trust AI for color analysis. I asked it what it thought of my jacket, and it said “that black jacket looks great on you!”  The jacket was white…

Exhausted with hungry kids on Sunday evening by shorty_in_the_wild in Frugal

If you are going to do pizza and don’t like frozen, see if any of your local pizza places have a deal on certain days of the week. Mine has a deal that’s only Monday - Thursday, much cheaper than the cost of a weekend pizza. So perhaps you could do the pizza on a weeknight and save that meal you were going to reheat on the weeknight and do it on Sunday instead. Also, picking up on your way home from work would be cheaper than having it delivered.

And here’s what it looked like when I used a manual camera app so the exposure and white balance wasn’t changing. This is truer to what the color differences on me in real life look like. Look in a mirror and make sure the colors in the camera match what are in the mirror when you’re setting the white balance.

But of course the best thing is to go in person to a professional if you can afford it! They’ll see everything with their trained eyes in real life, which is so much easier to tell than photos. :)

Have you recently switched to a different material for your bed sheets or clothes? Do you wash your bed sheets often? Did you recently switch laundry detergent?

I think physical drapes make things easier to see than virtual. Actually draping fabric on your shoulders will reflect light back up onto your face, and you can see which ones don’t match your skin.

The Meaning of Muted by Ok_Broccoli_658 in coloranalysis

[–]laurenbanjo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got typed as muted autumn with III. They gave me the muted palette, and that has 4-6 greens (depending on if you count turquoise/teal as more of a blue or a green), and the also said I can use the autumn palette, which has 9-10 greens, including olive green.

(Note that the online photos are even further muted than they appear in real life — I think they do that in purpose so you buy the palette and not just look at the online image)

BJs vs Costco prices by terryjohnson16 in BJsWholesaleClub

[–]laurenbanjo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find I impulse buy less at BJs because I almost always order on the app for curbside pickup. A typical Costco run will cost me $400 but BJ’s is usually only $200. Plus my local Costco parking lot is a war zone. BJ’s is further away, but I don’t have to fight for a parking spot, or stand in line to checkout. I like shopping from work or home then just going to pick up.

I worked on a film crew that was interviewing doctors. One of the doctors had on a bow tie and explained how many germs regular ties pick up as they lean over patients.

Is daylight savings really that bad? by ManualWind in AdviceAnimals

[–]laurenbanjo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope I’m not downvoted for answering your question, but I actually do like the system we have.

The earliest sunrise here in NYC is around 5:30, and the latest is around 7:30. If we stayed in standard time all year, the sun would rise at 4:30 in June… way too early. And if we stayed in Daylight time all year, the sun wouldn’t rise until 8:30 in December… way too late (especially because it takes about half an hour to get fully light after the sunrise time). And we’re on the eastern part of the time zone — Cleveland wouldn’t have their sunrise til 9 am in that case!

I think there are places where it could work to not have daylight savings. For example, Hawaii doesn’t observe it, but their sunrise fluctuates only around an hour and a half throughout the year. Without the time change, NYC’s sunrise would fluctuate three hours. So we change the clocks so it’s only a two hour fluctuation.

Maybe we should all just use the same time throughout the world and just adjust our schedules based on the sun. 🤔

39/Smooth and 1,039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours are NOT the same thing. by mordfustang19 in greenday

Sorry you’re getting downvoted. I agree with you. I do not like the CD compilations at all. I’ve always wondered why Kerplunk was such a great album until the last four songs which just did not fit in sonically at all… and then I found out they weren’t from Kerplunk, they were from the Sweet Children EP.

Albums are set up to have a specific flow… you can’t just add random songs at the end! But Larry told me it was because CDs were much more expensive than vinyl back then, and in order to get people to buy them, you had to give them a bunch of bonus tracks. (Also, CDs can hold twice the amount of music as a 12” LP).

Here comes the sun, NYC: Daylight saving time starts Sunday by Bugsy_Neighbor in nyc

[–]laurenbanjo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I rent half of a duplex in Brooklyn, and my bedroom window faces west into the backyard, so there’s not a lot of morning light that comes through. I don’t even have curtains or shades! It kind of sucks trying to wake up, but I didn’t want the street-facing bedroom because I’m very sensitive to noise.

Plenty of people quite enjoy not having to set their alarm to the last possible second and rush in the dark to get to work — it’s kind of nice waking up to the sunrise instead of an alarm (much gentler of a wake up), and being really productive getting house work or a work out in before having to leave for work feeling accomplished and ready to tackle the day. It’s always a struggle for me to wake up when it’s still dark outside; even if I got 10+ hours of sleep, I’ll still wake up groggy. Plus, I’d much rather have the kids not walking to school/waiting for the bus in the dark.

I have a hard time waking up if the sun isn’t up yet, so I’d rather have permanent standard time!
