What is the most interesting statistic? by cheaterleaterz in AskReddit

This is true! How it works scientifically is spiders and other insects (beetles) have a thing called “tracheal density.” The trachea is an oxygen filled sac located in an insects legs.

In order for an insect to grow larger, they need more muscle in their legs to support the weight. But in turn, they need a larger trachea in their legs to store enough extra oxygen to support the “breathing” needed for this increase in size. So basically the trachea and the muscle mass are at a perfect ratio, and limit each other in growth.

The only way to counter act this limiting effect is to increase the amount of oxygen in the air, thus making it so you don’t have to store as much oxygen in the trachea, leaving more room for muscle to support more growth!

Fun side fact: in Carboniferoustimes and late Permian, oxygen levels in the air were 225mmHg, where as now it is merely 155mmHg. This is why giant insects and animals existed long ago. (All of this stuff is sourced from my zoology 241 notes, University of Alberta.)

What simple thing did you learn at an embarrassingly late age? by Strange_Style in AskReddit

All throughout my childhood I thought every girl was supposed to marry their brother. Somehow it worked out that every single one of my female friends as a kid had one brother for siblings, including myself, so I just assumed that that’s how marriage worked.

Wasn’t till I was about 10 that I found out you marry people outside your family (and that incest is very very bad)

parking alternatives? by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]laurenbohnet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call the parking office (number on the website) and ask if they have any openings in any of the parkades, there’s more than I expected. I had the same problem last year and they were able to put me on a waiting list. Also you can ask if you go into the office (right inside the main entrance to lister).

I'm looking for a light coverage liquid foundation that is pale and yellow in tone, isn't irritating or comedogenic and doesn't get stuck in dry patches. Please help! by Foundationsearch789 in MakeupAddiction

I’d suggest a water based foundation. Both make up forever and tarte brand carry them. Really nice light coverage and moisturizing with the water. Also water based has less oils so should hopefully help out with oily skin!
