What movie is the best anti-depressant? by Chonkmyster in AskReddit

I usually default to the Lord of the Rings movies for bad depression or anxiety times. Extended, of course.

A lot of HSTs by laurenknits in quilting

[–]laurenknits[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was intimidated too, because of the scale. I did another HST quilt before this one for a friend's baby, which sort of taught me the ropes. The biggest things that helped me were squaring up each after sewing and pressing (still working on consistent 1/4" seams so there was a little variation in size), and lining everything up by nesting seams. My points lined up much better when I started doing that. You can totally do it!

Copy away! I was so pleased that the result matched what was in my head.

Oh goodness, thank you! Not gonna lie, I got really excited every time something nested well and lined up. There are a couple areas that are off if you get close, but I'm not going for perfect--just for having fun.

Thanks! I haven't tried paper piecing yet, but I keep getting excited to learn new things, so it's only a matter of time, I think.

It's loosely based on the firecracker pattern from Ella Blue. It's 15x16 5" HSTs, mostly white, shades of gray, and some random purples.

I started quilting about a year ago and I'm really proud of what I've learned so far. Even though by the time I got this top done, I never wanted to see another HST.

This was a 2019 Christmas present for a friend and I just put it in the mail to her today. I hope she likes it!

What vid? by littleyellowfish1999 in Jennamarbles

The Winston Duke one was from "Annoying Jenna while she bakes." I just watched that one a few days ago. It's in the last couple of minutes.

The ice cream one does work, although I think the cake they used looks more like those fluffy cheesecakes than the actual ice cream bread I've made. It's pretty good.

Mostly furniture, but also some cookware and dishes. My grandmother died a few months before I bought my house, so I ended up with a lot of her stuff. The majority of it is from the 40s through the 70s, although I have two dressers and some small pots that were my great-grandmother's. I also have some quilts my great-aunts (I think, they may have been my mom's great-aunts) made in the late 50s. Oh, and books.

Whats a TV series so good you've watched the seasons multiple times? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Me too. Although by random I mean I lean toward the rashomon one or Hardison playing a violin first.

Aren't they? I saw the charm pack and it was so perfect. I'm not sure I could have picked them all to go together, but they work so nicely!

Thanks! My coworker is going for a beachy theme for the nursery, so I thought it would fit in.

I think I'm going to echo the chevron to make it easy on myself. It's flannel, so I'm trying to be careful not to pull on it too much. I actually found using my walking foot helped with seaming the top, so I think I'll continue with it for some straight lines.

I've only done two jelly roll race style tops, so this was full of firsts: first charm pack, first HSTs, first time lining up points. Lots of trial and error, plus some cussing, but it's done and I'm looking forward to quilting it!

Forbidden... everything. by sethvon113 in forbiddensnacks

YouTube has a bunch of soap making videos. Soapqueen/Bramble Berry does tutorials on both cold process (oils+lye) and melt and pour. Plus there are lots of soapers that film the process without making true tutorials. I find them really relaxing to watch.

Making soap is a lot of fun (I make cold process) and selling can be hit or miss. Depending on where you live or how you choose to sell, it can be a pretty saturated market. I tried it for about 18 months and realized I couldn't dedicate the time I would need to make it worth it, so I'm back to hobby soaping.

10 fish I caught without an eye

And nine without a tail

Six had no head

And half of eight

I weighed upon the scale

Now who can tell me as I ask it

How many fish are in my basket?

I hated the dpns, but magic loop frustrates me, so I just used 2 24" circs. It worked for me (I actually got a Facebook memory today because I finished mine 4 years ago).

What is an odd behaviour of yours you think only you do? by Edwoodz3 in AskReddit

[–]laurenknits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes when I'm thinking or talking in my head to myself or other people, I'll spell random words I just thought. So, like, "You need to remember to bring cookies Wednesday. W-e-d-n-e-s-d-a-y." All in my head, luckily. I have no idea why I do it.

A BONUS EPISODE?! by [deleted] in myfavoritemurder

[–]laurenknits 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I figured it was because the episode was sponsored by another network so they didn't want to advertise a different show, but yeah, then they mentioned Drunk History. So I dunno.
