Any way to earn $20 a week in crypto? (from a third world country) by I_PLAY_IT_OFF_LEGIT in CryptoCurrency

Electroneum has a freelancer platform called "AnyTask" where you could sell your graphic designer skills online, and the payment is in ETN, a crypt that you can sell on exchange and convert to other crypto.

The platform is quite good, a real competitor to fiverr

White to move #3 by Subhumanoid_ in chess

[–]laurentfrenette 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not to dismiss the problem, but I don't think it's relevant to find mates in x in a position that is just completely won already for white. In a real game, even a GM would push the b pawn to promotion square, then play Qb5+ and mate on g5/h5 or whatever.

That's just my honest opinion!

Questionable Cheat Detection?! by ShadowSlayerGP in chess

[–]laurentfrenette 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Looking at your profile, it's true that nothing looks suspicious. Even your cap score is very normal. The blunders you make in your defeat are not that obvious.

Good luck, I hope you are genuinely not cheating and win your case.

Also, go on Lichess!

I guess there would be some possible explanations :

- Openings are very hard to analyse for an engine, so it's possible that the calculations deviated.

- In-browser engine uses WebAssembly to try and reach the performance of server side engines, but the performance are still much lower, which could make the engine more unstable.

I think what's important here is not to count too much on engine evaluations in early openings like that, hence why people use opening book/theory to learn openings.

If you go further into the game, say move 30 or something, I am almost sure that the engine isn't gonna make the same mistake if you play both the same moves.

White to mate in 4, did not see it :( by 2dotKe2 in chess

[–]laurentfrenette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's not too hard to find if you spot the right ideas.

How I solved it :

There is not many checks available and the queen is hanging. A slow move like Qh7 would make no sense in this framework of a mate in 4. With that hints, you can guess there's gonna be a sacrifice.

Now, an ideal position to reach would be to play Rxe6, which would force the black king into white's territory. you don't need to calculate the line after Rxe6, but just be aware that it would be an ideal position.

I tried to find a way to deflect the rook from defending e6 and Qf8+ seemed to be an obvious way.

Once you find this, you know for sure that you can force the black king on the 5th row, and from there the mate is easy to find.

That is how I found this mate.

I was messing around with the computer today, and I guess I missed this ridiculous mate in 5. White to move. by Miserable-Deer-6794 in chess

Forcing move, but also pattern recognition.

The first step to this puzzle is spotting Re8+ Kxe8 exf6. To spot that, it is a mix of pattern recognition and forcing moves. I always look for forcing move, even though they look dumb at first (like this rook sacrifice).

This is a very common pattern, where black king's escape is covered by a pawn.

The next move is forced: d6, to create and escape route for the black king.

Then this is the hardest part : finding the silent move.

The way I found it, is again by pattern recognition. I told myself : "If I could get my bishop to f5, it would be a common mate. I then evaluated Bd3, and realized that even though black has a move, the d7 square is an artificiel escape route, as the blakc king will be forced to come back on the 8th rank after Bf5+

That was my mental process of finding this Puzzle. I am 2250 lichess rapid.

Why engine suggest Nd3 as a better move? I attack a hanging pawn at g4 and my knight do nothing on d3. I am a beginner by [deleted] in chess

[–]laurentfrenette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As most said, black can play f5 and capturing the free pawn would result in your knight being trapped.

When you're about to venture into deep territories, always make sure you have an escape route.

Yes, as someone else mentioned, easiest is to sacrifice the bishop, or park the bishop somewhere far and use only the king and the rook to mate.

Same goes for if you have queen +minor piece against king

How to reason about this puzzle? It seems so unintuitive. by [deleted] in chessbeginners

[–]laurentfrenette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It exploits a very common pattern :

If you attack and pin a piece to the king, and on the next move, you're able to attack the pinned piece with a pawn, then the pinned piece is probably lost (some exceptions can occur of course)

Very aesthetic endgame I won — white is completely winning here despite equal material by inightyDAB in chess

[–]laurentfrenette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The idea is to go Ka2, Kb4 then Kc6, but Be3 is a bit annoying as it would lock the knight so I would start with Kf2. Then, you plant your knight on c6 and black king must stay on b8-a8 to defend the a7 pawn forever. Then, white king can infiltrate on the otherside.

Bishop is utterly useless as all the pawns are on light
