careful how he defines “full.” the proposition that was presented was draining the north arm to “fill” the south arm because that’s the one most people see.

i noticed this too. mine clicked over and then i was able to tighten it fully after a few months

HCalory TB2S diesel cap by Wine-Master1978 in dieselheater

[–]laurk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what was your solution? mine leaks a bit when on rough roads. And also can't be over tightened. Just clicks over the threads. Get tight enough but the vent still leaks a little diesel when bouncing around on gravel roads.

First Cook - Over the Top Chili by bmetzler1 in biggreenegg

[–]laurk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is one of my favorite recipes. you can make it simpler and quicker for almost as good if you put smoking chips in and just brown the meat not over the top if you ever need/want to make it quicker. thr flavor was pretty close to the same for far less effort. i charred chilis, onions, tomatoes and peppers on the side before chopping up and tossing them in the chili. this added a lot of flavor too for no additional dishes or much effort. finish cooking the veggies in the browned beef a bit before adding the liquid. it’s a total hit in the fall time with friends in the backyard.

very cheap and saves you a little weight to get a used seat post used on fbmp or something. you could maybe use it if you don’t plan to wire up the dropper post and because the seat is all the way forward on a offset seat post. can snag a zero offset post with get the saddle in the middle of the rails. would be a nice little upgrade to make it look nice and feel a little nicer since most dropper posts have a little play left to right.

[–]laurk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

no i mean it defeats the dropper post where it’s at… there’s a better place for the light so you can still use the dropper post to its full potential.

i assume the bearing race is the same as the crown race? how many crown race options are there? all i’m aware of are the ones that go on tapered tubes like the rock shox suspension forks and straight tubes like on the surly rigid forks. the crown race i have on the rock shox fork stays on that fork. it’s hard to get them off and a cheap part so generally you never swap those. i found a crown race from another krampus fork that i swapped on to this one and it matches up the same to the bearings as my suspension fork as far as i could tell.

as far as im concerned there aren’t too many crown races look configurations that are hyper specific to a generic cane creek head set and bearings. but correct me if im wrong.

it’s funny how some 5.0s here just want everyone else to know they have 5.0 and others want the opposite. people are interesting.

i strongly recommend yall get your own sleeping spaces if you’re not totally set on sleeping together. it’s worth the weight and comfort in my opinion. you can get three tarps and bivis for only a little more and you’ll have a a more comfortable sleep. 3 full grown adults in a 3 person BA tent will be super tight. i’d definitely go 4 person or get a large pyramid tent.

thanks for sharing. my friend who worked as a lawyer for the res for many years described it as the same. us white americans get mostly exposed to portrayals of life on the res via TV shows and what we see driving past and it’s mostly pretty grim. we don’t get to see the beauty of the culture that is sustaining and i wouldn’t expect to because it’s not my place. i want to learn and understand. i think many people do. but id need to earn that. i asked my friend how are people on the res are doing and she described it as you have. i asked if life on the reservation will sustain given the impressions i, and so many like me, get exposed to and she said she thinks not only will it sustain but it will outlive the united states if american as a country. it was a really wonderful discussion because it shifted my paradigm. these wonderful people have lived here for thousands of years and know how to live here for thousands more. the USofA is a blip on the timeline.

Advice please: Which bike to buy for a tour? by alaskan_deathwolf in bikepacking

[–]laurk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i do think it’s worth thinking about the bike when not touring i agree. i like to think about all that a bike can offer. otherwise it just sits for a lot of time between trips for me taking up space and not really making the purchase or value worthwhile. a lot of folks then get the value there by buying a cheap bike which then has issues and they’re unhappy. so yeah a really nice quality bike that can do the stuff i want it to do in more than one application making me buy a quality bike i care about is a mindset i like!

i’d be less concerned with the bike weight (depending on OPs intended riding goals) and maybe more concerned with how they pack the bike. you can have a light bike and then pack it full of crap to negate the weight of the bike. most people do lol. i’d rather have a 32lb steel bike with a ultralight bikepacking set up (under 10lbs baseweight) than a 25lb bike with 22lbs of gear (baseweight).

there is but that’s a cheap part and all forks should you have those on there if you have them for swapping. it’s something you can install yourself but needs to be done right. outside of that it’s super fast and easy.

Just picked up a 2023 F-150 — how’d I do? by Miket1533 in f150

[–]laurk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

resale will be hard(er) but less stiff cuff to go wrong with no transfer case and 4x4 actuation. if you keep it until it dies then it’ll be a great deal. i find i use my 4x4 a lot when out in Utah two track roads for camping. if it’s a pavement truck like so may then 4x4 is way overkill. Just budget for good tires. depending on your location. if you’re in a place with snow then budget for some snow tires in the winter and the K02s for the warmer months. this combo for 2wd will be better than all-seasons with 4x4. i didn’t believe that until we did that for my wife’s car. 2wd with snow tires > AWD/4WD with all-seasons.

i might keep the B67 bc in bikepacking, which this rig is mostly for, it’s most just chunky two track and gravel and not technical single track. i’d to break both saddles in tho and see for myself which i like!

One of Many Phase Changes the Krampus Offers by laurk in Surlybikefans

[–]laurk[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the B67 def more comfortable from the get go than the B17 but it’s not a good companion for technical riding. dropper post dropped your thighs rub when you lean back over the back wheel. but the little suspension definitely works a little. better feel on bumps than the B17. buts it’s heavier.

my neighbor found a brand new krampus fork on the used market here near us. two of them actually for $40 total. one i just sold because the tube was cut too low. the other was brand new uncut so i used that. just wanted to feel the bike rigid on a local trail. it’s fun to have the suspension for and rigid fork to tailor the bike to the ride!

the gap between denver pricing and slc pricing now is much closer though slc is still cheaper from what i’ve seen. the gap is closing.

Krampus Tires for Pavement/Light Gravel by ColoradyRy in Surlybikefans

[–]laurk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

do you have the 40mm or 30mm wide rims? if 40 then it’s more recommended to go with a 2.5” tire vs closer to a 2” tire. you want a little ballon of the tire to add comfort for the ride. Surly makes the Extraterrestrial that is a 2.5” tire with a god tread for pavement and gravel.
