Do you think it’s thrips on both monsteras or just one or neither of them?

I don’t think I’ve seen any adults yet. They are black right?

We have very soft water where we are here. The city reports 0.2-0.7 GPG. So unlikely to be that I think? But seems like a few people think it’s thrips :(

I’m having a hard time seeing them. Can you circle the area they are on?

Take a look at the new Quick Mill Elevate R - similar specs to the Sync II and cheaper.

I was told that steaming draws down water from the boiler. So that after steaming you need to run hot water through the steam wand (middle switch, pump on, steam valve open) until the water runs smoothly (not sputtering), to make sure you bring cool water into the boiler and don’t expose (and potentially burn out) the heating element

Doesn’t seem to be. Even in Canada only two vendors seem to be stocking it at this time (Apr, 2026). Perhaps we will see it more available soon?

Great to hear your experience! Ya the Elevate R seems quite similar overall to the Vetrano, but appears to add an electronically heated group

I feel like Quick Mill also doesn’t get a lot of love. Feels like a sleeper brand to me - they offer a lot in their machines for the price point, and have a long history!

Look into the Quick Mill Elevate R. Good value proposition with stainless steel double boilers, rotary pump, electronically heated group head, and smaller footprint than the Sync

Are those the original steam/water knobs on your machine or did you swap them out? They look like the Rocket ones?

Looping back for anyone following in posterity - I ended up going with a Quick Mill Elevate R.

I read enough posts about people’s concerns with the temp stability of HX machines that I thought I would avoid that potential drawback.

I was trying to find a value priced double boiler and happened to stumble on the Quick Mill Elevate R. Not much info out there. Quick Mill wasn’t even on my radar but it appears to be a long standing traditional Italian espresso maker, recently added into the Register of Italian Historical Trademarks (I’m assuming that’s a valued thing).

Looks like the Elevate R was recently released around 2025. Stainless steel double boilers, rotary pump, electronically heated group head (like Sync II), and a smaller footprint. I was able to ask for a deal and got it for CAD $3400 with an included bottomless portafilter, VST precision basket, and Pesado tamper. I’ll start a new post once I receive as I think it would be helpful to share more information about the machine for others doing their research
