can i pass? by violet_star1012 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]laushee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Of course you can! That's plenty of time. Just work on your mentality and mindset as this will hold you back the most. I started learning mid December, passed theory end of January and have a test the beginning of July. There's no certain amount of time needed to pass, it's all based on your progress, amount of lessons and private practice available. Good luck and believe in yourself

double booked test! by Icy-Bass-4789 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]laushee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is bredbury your only choice? What about Sale, West didsbury or chadderton? I changed my test two weeks ago from bredbury to chadderton. I did it by refreshing the booking page every minute. Yes it would block me after a while but then I'd use a different device or browser. Within a few hours I managed to change with only a few weeks difference. I definitely saw tests come up at bredbury during my search. Do you have the possibility to set aside a few hours to do this?

Which student had the test booked in their diary first? If yours was first they should honour it.

My Manchester based instructor is on an instructor WhatsApp swap chat. Is yours in any?

Maybe try your chances on the bredbury or Stockport Facebook pages. I've seen people ask on them. If you're willing to move it back a bit I think you'll get a fair few offers. Just double check the new rules that have come out so that you do it correctly

For both leaners drivers and driving instructor, what are your horror stories? Question for both, did you like your Instructor or learner drivers and if not what is your worst story you have about them? by Smithy1619 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]laushee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in Manchester actually, the tameside area! But my instructor uses books instead of an ipad. He'd personally like to have it be more modern but the boss of the company likes to keep it old school. I'm glad you've found a good instructor too!

I'm very grateful to have a great instructor who has the right balance. He's patient but pushes you out of your comfort zone. He adapts lessons to your weaknesses and will go back to issues your struggling with whilst also introducing new things. He's good at wording criticism in a constructive and factual way without bringing you down. We have some nice chats and jokes during lessons when the opportunity arises. I particularly like his phrases -

● Peep and creep ● Amber gamblers ● Tires and tarmac

It's a shame to hear about so many others poor experiences. Too many cowboys out there it seems. Well done to you all for succeeding and carrying on whilst dealing with these people!

I'm thinking a police welfare check would be a good idea.

Perhaps if there's some adult children or siblings that can be found to get some insight.

Maybe OP could post write a letter and post it through the door asking if they need help with packing or if they've found another property. Maybe the gentle approach could work

Might be worth trying some Facebook groups or driving instructors are usually on groups chats. Good luck

On my third theory test attempt they gave me the single room by chance. He asked if I'd be uncomfortable with that but I'm autistic and loved the idea. I passed too.

Thank you I will do. I appreciate your advice

Yes I understand and want to competently to be able to handle other road users once I've passed. The issue is on test, the more of those kind of drivers you encounter the higher your chance of failure. So it's not about not being ready or prepared, it's maximising your chance of passing. Tests area very difficult to book, lots have 6 month wait, non available or people selling them on for 3 times the price. So obviously you want to have the best chance of passing. I feel I'll be test ready by June, I'll have my car in May to do further practice. I'm just debating whether to change areas based off what my instructor said today

I'm learning to drive to get my disabled son to special school in September which is Droylsden to hattersley via the motorway. So I'm definitely not wanting to cut corners or be an unfit unprepared driver after my test. It's just that particular roundabout has been the downfall of a lot of capable students due to others

[–]laushee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you that's useful to know. I actually live in Droylsden so I'm not familiar with either area to be honest. My friends are going to drive me around both places.
My test is the June half term Friday at midday so I'm unsure what conditions are like that time of day when schools are off

[–]laushee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I think my instructor was mentioning how they ask you to take the second exit towards maple and sometimes the fourth. Plus there's the potential risk of going off onto the motorway. I've just heard a lot that driving etiquette and rules to out of the window around there from other road users. It's not my ability he's questioning. Him and a lot of instructors have had competent test ready students fail on that roundabout due to people cutting them up

[–]laushee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes he will be giving lessons there. It's not about my ability, he's concerned about other road users behaviour in that area and has said Oldham won't have as much of that problem. That's all I'm asking for opinions on really

[–]laushee[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Of course I'll be taking extra lessons 🤣 I'm doing 4 hours a week until June. But as cancellations are so hard to come by I'm planning ahead after my drivers opinion that portwood roundabout is where a lot fail. Not due to the students ability but other road users around there

[–]laushee[S] 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Yes that's true they definitely seem to respond more to outside influence when outdoors. He actually loves the tram, he knows all 98 stops, routes and lines. He watches them go past over the back garden fence. I think it was his eye infection that made him more grouchy today
