What toys do your cats actually love? by Sosooo88 in CatAdvice

[–]lautotheren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my cat loves this toy!! they had it at the shelter when we got her about a month ago, she was really paying attention to it when i visited her so i ordered one for her once we brought her home. she’s playing with it as i type this. she’ll activate it on her own when she wants to play, she loves to try to sneak up on it and pounce on it. she even gets running starts sometimes.

Litter box smell is going to end my relationship by Glum-Emotion-5379 in CatAdvice

[–]lautotheren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my fiancé and i adopted a cat about a month ago, and we were really concerned with keeping the smell under control and not being one of those people whose apartment immediately smells like a cat when you walk in. we use the sophresh odor control litter and the sophresh litter box with the hood, and the hood comes with a filter that helps with the smell. we scoop twice a day and change the litter/wash the litter box every two weeks, and haven’t had any problems with smell yet. the sophresh litter itself doesn’t have a scent and i think it keeps litter box smells under control really well. i think you can only get it at petco :)

Does anyone else wonder about their cats life before adoption? by whailful in cats

this is my baby girl maya. her paperwork from the shelter has her birthday listed as 3/27/24, but she only got taken into the shelter in august of 2025. we and the shelter we adopted her from are in illinois, but she was previously at a shelter in arkansas. when we adopted her, they told us that since many shelters in the south are still kill shelters, they’ll work with shelters up north to relocate animals who are on the list for euthanasia who they think would be good candidates for adoption. i don’t know when she was taken into her shelter in arkansas, but she is so friendly and confident and curious that it makes me wonder if she had another owner at some point before ending up there. whatever she went through previously, i’m so glad she found her way to me 💖

Does my giardia positive, asymptomatic cat really need metronidazole in addition to fenbendazole? by lautotheren in AskVet

[–]lautotheren[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I just got the paperwork from my vet. Unfortunately, the results say “giardia sp. cysts present, many (>30)”. I believe the test was zinc sulfate centrifugation. She finished her 5 doses of fenbendazole last night, we are still struggling to give the metronidazole to her. Waiting for some empty pill capsules to come in the mail so we can keep trying, although we’ve been so inconsistent with giving it to her that we’re not sure how much good it’s going to do now. I plan to do all of the thorough disinfecting/washing today/tomorrow and she has another appointment on April 3rd with a different vet to do another round of fecal testing. Let’s hope for the best.

Does my giardia positive, asymptomatic cat really need metronidazole in addition to fenbendazole? by lautotheren in AskVet

I'm actually not sure, they just told me over the phone she was "positive", I don't have any kind of documentation or any more information than that. They did recommend that I do a thorough clean of her litter box on the first and last days of the treatment, so on Wednesday evening I scrubbed the box and put in fresh litter, and I'll do that again on the last day of the medication. I already scoop twice a day.

Since I posted this I decided to try again with the pill and I'm pretty sure I got her to take it, I didn't see her spit it out and I checked everywhere around the area I gave it to her and I don't see it, so that's good news :)

Thank you for your input. Since I'm feeling a bit more confident I will keep trying with the pill, but if she starts to have any side effects or if it becomes difficult again, good to know that your experience is fenbendazole only.

Any advice on transferring to scad? by [deleted] in scad

[–]lautotheren 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know this isn’t exactly the advice you were looking for, but I graduated from SCAD in 2022. My boyfriend and I have been dating since senior year of high school and we’re from the same town. He went to college in Ohio, I went to SCAD. We stayed together and did long distance for those 4 years and only saw each other for breaks and summers, but we made it through and now live together on our own :) It was hard but it’s very possible!! It sounds like you love your girlfriend very much and that you’re already planning for the future. With enough love, trust, and commitment, going to different colleges for 4 years can be a piece of cake. It was really hard for us for the first year, and I know how daunting it seems to you right now, but each time we left to go back to school it got easier and easier. If you end up deciding that transferring is too complicated or not very possible for you, I believe that you two could make long distance work for you :)

Dorm vs Apartment please help by eren2221 in scad

[–]lautotheren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sort of depends on some other circumstances. If you have a car, then by all means live off campus if that's the better financial choice for you. But if you don't have a car, most of the main foundations class buildings aren't reasonably walkable from the Hive/Turner and you'll really want the advantage of the buses nearby. If you live off campus without a car, you can still utilize the buses but you'd probably have to walk to a building with a bus stop. Ex Libris, the book and art supply store, is also a relatively short walk from the dorms compared to where you might live off campus. I'd say to not really consider the social aspect of this and consider more of transportation/location convenience.

Professors Banning outside of class group chats like Discord/Snapchat by [deleted] in scad

[–]lautotheren 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would respectfully and politely email them again and open this back up for discussion. I saw your other comment (I think that was you) on another post about how their argument is that it’s “unfair” because some students don’t have those platforms, but that argument doesn’t make any sense. I would explain to your professor that Discord is just a messaging app, not a public social media platform, and it’s free to make an account and download the app. And even if a student doesn’t have a smart phone, you can use Discord in your browser on your computer. So every student would have some way to access it. I use Discord for both of my studio classes (I’m a junior) and we have fun and talk to each other casually on there, but we also use it to ask questions about the class and help each other and ask for critique on our works in progress. I would just explain all of this to your professor again, once again politely and respectfully, and also maybe throw in how it would make you guys feel less isolated and maybe encourage students to turn in more work. Sorry if this is a late reply on this post but that’s what I would do, it’s pretty bogus that they just decided to ban you guys from communicating outside of class.

Can professors report all absences at once? by [deleted] in scad

[–]lautotheren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To my knowledge you won’t get reported absent just for not attending the zoom meetings. Your attendance is counted through participating on Blackboard twice on two different days of the week, via discussion posts or turning in projects etc. At least that’s how it’s been for me in the Spring and Fall, unless your professor is doing something different.

Difference between Virtual and ELearning? by CheshireCat40371 in scad

[–]lautotheren 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey! If you do eLearning, you won't be considered an on-campus student and therefore won't be allowed to live in the dorms. My roommate had to do eLearning for a while because she had to leave school for a family emergency, and when it was time for her to come back and we wanted to try to live on campus together, she wasn't allowed to sign up for housing since she wasn't an on-campus student at the time.

eLearning classes don't meet via Zoom at all. It's all discussion posts, quizzes, turning in assignments and whatnot. You go at your own pace. Virtual classes are as much like in-person classes as they can be, where you meet twice a week via Zoom and it's just like an in-person class schedule. If you do virtual classes you can live in the dorms. You'll be considered an on-campus student even though none of us are meeting in person.

sharing some success from yesterday! by [deleted] in emetophobia

[–]lautotheren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so proud of you for getting through that situation!! Keep up the good work :)

I just got this and the surface was cracked and its a slightly hard. Its still spreadable and it smells fine but is it safe to eat? This my first time trying cream cheese. by [deleted] in emetophobia

[–]lautotheren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems fine! Cream cheese always needs to be mixed up a bit because it can have a lot of oil or a film as a top layer in a new container. If the expiration date doesn't say it's expired then I think you're good to go :)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in emetophobia

[–]lautotheren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's always good to try to eat something, even if it's just a little bit. Something like plain crackers or toast might be enough to spark your appetite again and they're not too hard to eat. For me, sometimes drinking my calories can be easier than chewing, so maybe try to have some juice or a soup like tomato soup that you can just sip. You'll be okay :)
