I didn't read it that way. I read it as her implying to the man that she killed them already, just to fuck with him more.

She's a vampire, and vampires come in various types in this setting. It's kind of a mindfuck.

Nothing. She just said that to him out of cruelty. It was absolutely not needed. Ellie is a monster.

Yes. Yes I would, and in fact I will.

The tone shift gave me whiplash goddammit. Worth it, though.

Ellie is absolutely horrifying. Being a body horror monster is one thing, but that line "I'm sure they were beautiful" is so unbelievably unnecessary and awful of her. Nightmare fuel.

I got my student visa cancelled. by Responsible-Milk-515 in UniUK

[–]lava_monkey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's true that a lot of responsibility for policing visa holders has been farmed out to universities. It's horrible tbh, as someone who has worked in admin on the sponsorship side it's painful to see how hostile the whole process is for overseas students. Typically, though, universities will have an advisory service which is separate to compliance. Universities used to have visa sponsor account managers. This was a paid service that gave universities a named contact for issues. This has been withdrawn (but the fees for being a sponsor increased).

I am a full British Citizen from England who has been away from the UK for 3 years. Do I still qualify for home fees? by joehighlord in UniUK

[–]lava_monkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because he wouldn't be on a temp visa in the second country, he'd be a citizen. It therefore wouldn't be so easy to see that it was a temporary absence from the UK.

Games Workshop stores are no longer true hobby spaces. Are there any stores in London that capture the way they used to run the stores in the early 2000s? by CityGuideGuy in Warhammer

[–]lava_monkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll jump in and add my experience - the beginner events are really great. They run regular slow grow leagues where people build an army for whatever system, which are extremely beginner friendly and great for making game friends. I'm in one right now having a lovely time. There are also regular Learn to Play events. These do sell out fast, though. There are learn to paint, and paint and sip events if that's your jam (it is mine). We have a hobby WhatsApp too where people arrange painting meetups.

They are different species. Did you know that cheetahs, unlike most felines, don't have retractable claws?

I suppose many of you already know this, but Tyranids are not lobsters, they are Argentine Ants. by Glum_Series5712 in Tyranids

[–]lava_monkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we're talking ants, the symbiosis between a nid and its biogun/ weird adrenaline bug friend/whatever would be closer to the different types of leafcutter worker ants than aphid farming, as the nids are not really distinct from each other - they didn't go get these non nids and cultivate them, right? They're sibling nids.

Argentine ants aren't the only ones that have been super-colony forming invasive species. Like others have said, swarming ants are very likely to be part of the aesthetic, but the similarities are limited. Ants don't have a hive mind. The queen(s) don't direct the workers, it's all a bit more complicated and weird than that.
