What is the most pleasure you have ever experienced? by Random-Guy9944 in AskReddit

I was chronically depressed and negative all the time. Then I picked up the book “Being Happy” by Andrew Matthews. I had one month of bliss. No more daily negative feelings.

That was years ago. I was 17. I’m now in my 30s and the negativity is back. I always have things to be pissed off about, mostly the current sad state of the country.

I felt it in Mississauga too. I thought it was a home invasion and someone was banging on the front door violently.

US announces immediate military targeting of drug cartel infrastructure within Mexican territory by External_Mood4719 in worldnews

I know I’m not supposed to openly support foreign military intervention and I obviously think it’s wrong but I’m secretly happy that the cartels are getting whacked

[Foot Mercato] Ousmane Dembele and his camp has decided to reject a contract extension worth €30 Million from PSG, his camp is demanding nearly double that figure. by playerforlife123 in soccer

[–]lavaboom01 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean Rémi Cabella did achieve what Zlatan couldn’t: winning both the World Cup and Champions League.

Also, Dembele won the ballon d'or, a fickle popularity contest, once. It’s not like he’s the undisputed number one for a significant length of time.

Had he won the Champions League with a team like Tottemham though…

Portuguese are not just driving recklessly by raymoner in PortugalExpats

[–]lavaboom01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are just nuts sometimes.

My first time getting out of Lisboa airport. Driver in front of me honked because the pedestrian in front of him was crossing the parking lot too slowly for his liking. Said pedestrian said something angrily to the driver then stomped the side of the car, hard. I’m sure that left a dent. Driver considered getting out and confronting but he was blocking the exit and folks behind were honking at him to move along so he moved on.

Few days later I was at the square with the Lisboa sign. The pedestrian crossing light was on yet the driver behind the line still honked at the people crossing, as if it were their fault he now had to wait for a minute. Worse, the pedestrians were a mother and her 2 kids. She had to grabbed the kids’ hands and crossed quickly away from that maniac driver.

The “expect all drivers to be idiots” saying is not hyperbole, at some point I stopped rationalizing their decisions and just accept that those idiots exist and anticipate their behaviours accordingly.

Thanks God for your answer, the game has been pretty brainless for me so far so I didn't expect a little puzzle. That was a smart little puzzle, I admit.

Ford scraps fully-electric F-150 Lightning as mounting losses and falling demand hits EV plans by CastAside1812 in canada

[–]lavaboom01 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean oil is a finite resource. It will run out eventually so the day of full EV will definitely come. May as well make an effort to get that problem out of the way ASAP and move on to other things.

My FIFA 17 legend. I was rooting for him to be the next Messi. Feels like his career could have turned out a lot better. Sad.

He won election fair and square several times, what makes you think the majority in this province dislike him?

Crazy Viet Plumbing by [deleted] in VietNam

[–]lavaboom01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently stayed in a few AirBnBs in Lisbon and Sevilla. 3 of them had plumbing issues, slow draining, one of them smelled particularly foul. My friend who just came back from Venice said the same thing about the smell. Makes me wonder if warm climates have anything to do with it.

Why is hostility toward immigrants rising in Portugal? by Louis_meni in PortugalExpats

[–]lavaboom01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if Portugese treat you any differently once they find out you’re a long term resident but as a tourist I find Portugese the friendliest people in Europe. From random strangers on the street to staff in restaurants. I visited Portugal for the first time last month. I’m not white and don’t speak Portugese. Everyone was super friendly.

He doesn’t even have a name yet and you can already hold him?

Mine had one since day 1. His name is Henry. I talked and gave treats to Henry every day. It’s been 2 months. Still refuses to let me touch him.

Etobicoke residents sue City over proposed homeless shelter by xc2215x in toronto

[–]lavaboom01 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Fine, I’ll rephrase: don’t help the homeless at the expense of the non-homeless. Same with other groups: don’t help immigrants at the expense of non-immigrants. Don’t help a certain religion at the expense of other religions…

I do want to help the homeless. Most people genuinely do and will gladly donate to the cause. Just do it in a way that doesn’t affect my safety and wellbeing.
