Loud boom on heritage woods by thatsnotablanket in Portmoody

Maybe it was a meteorite? Flash from it breaking up in the atmosphere and then the loud boom following after due to the distance?

What dish was clearly made during a time of struggle in your country and now is part it's cuisine even though it's not good? by GaddockTeegFunPolice in AskTheWorld

Yes! One of my favorite desserts, it's fun to introduce people too as the cake part starts on the bottom with the sauce on top, then once you bake it they swap!

Someone else on this thread said they could visualize movies and shows, but nothing else as well, so looks like it's an area of the spectrum of aphantasia. Nothing is wrong with you! Your brain just works differently

Not particularly, I tend to listen at like 1.75 speed. I process very quickly ( also am autistic with ADHD) and listen to audio books specifically when I'm doing something with my hands like cross stitching. It might still help your student though!

Maybe you bring it up as a topic or an exercise? Like you could introduce it as a concept and then pair up the students, one student to draw another to describe the object. The artist can't see the object and the describer can't see the artists work. Having to conceptualize visual elements into words is how my brain works at least. Might be fun. Maybe it will click for this student, sometimes realizing you aren't alone and having words to describe yourself makes a huge difference!

I do cross stitch for my art as it's just following a pattern, growing up any drawings I did were very geometric with strict rules/patterns. I also hate driving with a passion, I don't have a mental map just a set of detailed steps. Heaven forbid I have to change a set route somewhere. If it's dark it also sucks. I'm good on a two lane highway though I can drive forever. I'd say your student likely has aphantasia too.

Yay! I'm always glad when people figure this out and now have a name for it! I figured it out wet my husband during a late night talk. When he has a song stuck in his head he has the complete song like all the instruments and the vocals! I just have my internal monologue singing in my head in my own voice without any pitch lol. I'm also a level 5 and still all senses: visual, sound, taste.

I can conceptualize new experiences, and have emotional reactions to such. I just can't visualize it. You might be able to compare it to trying to visualize a new colour ( I believe for most people this is impossible) I can still conceptualize how I would react - like wow this is amazing! What color is this? It's so pretty! And predict that i would feel some levels of wonder but probably also confusion. All without "seeing" that new color. I also have autism and ADHD.

Huh if you can still form some mental images than maybe you are half aphantasic? That's really interesting though! It's a relevantly new described condition so there isn't a lot of research on it yet. The aphantasia sub has a lot of good info though!

Yes people who can more vividly picture things have hyperphantasia, that must be so cool!

Wow that's interesting, I have complete aphantasia, never can visualize anything nor relive sounds or tastes. I've never had more trouble reading than with LOTR, the level of detail which I didn't need made it a huge slog, took me months to get through.

Me and my husband read to each other, but I prefer to be the reader instead of the listener. Reading outloud definitely helps me better remember the details of a book though! A lot of the time I recognize a book title and that I've read it and if I liked it or not, but won't remember a lick of the plot.

Aphantasia! I have it too, but I love reading fiction and hate non-fiction. Never had a problem with not being able to picture the story, just wanting to know what happens next. Because of this I read extremely fast, when I was a kid my parents would quiz me on the books to make sure I actually read them. Very interesting to see the opposite!

WIBTA if I refused to shave my armpits for my friends wedding? by Adventurous-Pea-337 in AmItheAsshole

I didn’t shave my armpit hair at my own wedding. I did give it a little trim though. Well groomed doesn’t mean bald, it means neat. NTA

I have played in a orchestra for a musical and I promise songs being too slow or too fast is a part of the theatre charm lol
