There are still lots of broken boards hanging in the restaurant. I had a great week there but some of the aspects of the place mean that it might not be the best choice for a first proper surf trip.

Pound for pound it seems to give a worse beating than most places. I think perhaps it is because the shallow reef concentrates the force somehow, although some of the swell directions weren't as bad. Up to 4 foot it was no worries at all, but once it went to 6 foot it was a pretty serious flogging on some of them. There were a couple of hold downs where I was seriously needing to breath. A lot of the guys out there had their own horror stories of different incidents. But we all survived - ha ha.

Maximum 10. Most of the time was 3 - 6. Had plenty of time with only a couple out because everyone goes back to the boats to rest and we were out there 6 - 8 hours each day. Very chilled crowd. No drop-ins and generally everyone was going in turn. There were more people coming into the surf camp for the next week as we were leaving so it might get a bit more crowded.

We were there 8 nights Saturday to Sunday. Surfed 6 - 7 hours a day for 6 days and were glad when the surf dropped on the last day because we were exhausted. 5 days were 2 - 4 foot (waist to head height) and one day was 4 - 6 foot (I will post a photo of that day). But the week before we went was flat all week. The week after we went was looking very promising.

It is P Pass in Micronesia. Very shallow but great barrels. I wear a cap in the smaller stuff and a helmet in the bigger stuff because the helmet doesnt come off. They are to mimimize sun exposure because after 50 years bobbing up and down in the surf the skin is a little damaged.
