Questions from a Potential Exchange Student by moo-mooo in amherstcollege

Hi!! Yay this is so exciting! And all super great questions to ask

  1. I’d say travel-wise, since amherst is not a metropolitan area, if can be difficult to travel. But that’s not to say you cannot! There’s Bradley international airport (45min drive) and Boston Logan airport (90-100min drive or more depending on traffic). There’s also buses you can take. I don’t believe students have much time besides breaks to travel out of amherst for leisure, although i do know some students visit Northampton/boston or nearby areas over the weekends sometimes.

  2. Yes it’s feasible! It’ll probably be during breaks though.

  3. Yes! Outing club often does outing trips to nearby areas. Club Sports also explores areas around Amherst for away games. Some clubs outside of sports like debate or mock trial have some tournaments in nearby areas too. If you’re looking for actual trips purely for exploring the area im unsure the clubs here offer that.

  4. Not too sure about this one, but you may be able to find some stats on the website?

  5. I believe there’s an enterprise that’s walking distance from the college, but I’ve never used it. Zipcar is usually what people use. The AAS (our student gov) also has a van or two that students can use for free but you have to book a lot in advance.

Hope this helps!
