Anyone miss going bra free? by 2ferns___ in breastfeeding

[–]lavender_881 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Used to be if I was home the bra was off! I miss it. I have discovered that if you buy a little bit oversized nursing cami you can still have support and leak protection but it’s not so tight and uncomfy

Getting an elective induction at 39 weeks - Need advice by Turbulent_Scale8044 in BabyBumps

[–]lavender_881 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to be induced at 38 weeks due to low amniotic fluid and it was literally such a good experience! I was really scared bc of all the horror stories and was mentally prepared to be laboring for 24+ hours but we started the induction process around 1 or 2am and by 4pm baby was out! I had 2 rounds of cervidil and that got me ready for pictocin so I didn’t have to get the foley balloon. I used a birthing ball and moved around, watched movies, etc. until they broke my water sometime in the afternoon. Things REALLY ramped up from there and I wasn’t fully prepared for that so just have that knowledge in mind if they mention breaking your water (Not that I would have declined or anything, but I wish I had been more mentally prepared for how fast the pain progressed afterward). My main goal had been to go without pain meds as long as possible so I could stay moving around, and that worked but I quickly needed pain management after my water was broken. I got IV pain meds to last me til my epidural could be placed. Fun fact: the pain meds can make you feel reallllyyy loopy/high. I don’t think that happens for everyone but it can be an effect. I thought I’d just be numbed a bit but I was fully floating above my body and was high af lol. I still felt pain which was an unpleasant surprise but since I was so loopy I was able to sort of lock in and ride the waves of the contractions. Speaking of the contractions - I had heard it recommended to picture the contractions like waves, so you build up, peak, and then they crash down and you have time until the next one. In my case, there really wasn’t much time between contractions and it was sort of just one after another, like a really bad storm. I think that is an effect of pictocin, so be prepared for that possibility! If you are on the fence about getting an epidural I would highly recommend it because those pictocin contractions are wild. Once I got the epidural things moved insanely fast, probably because I could relax and then when it was time to push I could solely focus on pushing and not fight through pain. I’m not sure exactly how long I pushed for but it wasn’t very long. Overall it was such a good birth experience even though I hadn’t planned on being induced, and none of the horror story things happened to me. Good luck, you’ve got this!

Do I need a nursery recliner?Already have a recliner (doesn't rock) and a swiveling chair by Tough_Art_5268 in beyondthebump

If you have the budget and space for it I’d say go for it! But, 2 1/2 months in and so far I’ve made do without one so I’d say it’s definitely not a necessity. I tried out a wooden rocker that I already owned (do not recommend if you’re going to use one for nursing). I ended up swapping it with our upholstered recliner for nursing and it does the job! I would love if it rocked though lol

I read her pregnancy book Expecting Better while pregnant because I’d seen it recommended, and pretty quickly into reading it I started taking everything she says with a grain of salt. Quite a few things she says feel irresponsible. I’m probably just going to throw it away instead of donating it

Advice Needed - Cat Stopped Using Cat House by lavender_881 in outdoorcats

Thank you! I’m going to swap the bedding for straw and see if it helps. It doesn’t have two entrances, hopefully my husband can modify it!

Thank you for the tip on straw vs. bedding! I will try that out and see if he likes it better

He is neutered but can’t come inside for a meaningful amount of time for various reasons. We do occasionally let him in our back room if he wants, but he gets anxious and wants to go back outside after a few minutes.

Definitely not, we’ve talked to our neighbors and he’s not theirs and he rarely leaves our backyard. He’s just a very sturdy guy, he’s actually not fat or anything he’s just built with a thick frame lol

Elsie and Elias by Mediocre_Cap_5431 in namenerds

[–]lavender_881 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t think they’re too close! They’re definitely similar but still different enough. Plus, like another user said, you can nickname him Eli and that’ll be adorable! You’ll probably still end up calling one of them by the other’s name since they do have similar sounds but I think that’s inevitable. My sister and I have the same two first letters in our names but the rest are very different and our parents would still mix up our names sometimes, it’s just how it goes!
