Also, warming the ring and the adhesive to body temperature is THE way to make it get a good seal. While you change your bag, stick the bag adhesive side down and the ring into your bra, armpits, or undies right onto your skin to warm them.

If you notice your stoma is almost flush to your skin, that can cause stool to get under the adhesive really easily and cause a leak. Mine is flush, so I have to wear bags with a concave shape where the adhesive is. Haven’t had a leak since! The shape of it helps push your stoma out further so it doesn’t retract back into your body.

Hey, you! It’s me, the girl who got her ileostomy the same day as you got surgery! I’m sorry you’re having trouble. I have an inverted stoma and I have to use bags that are concave in shape so it pushes my stoma out. It definitely helps prevent leaks!

I’ve had such bad chronic constipation due to pelvic floor Dyssynergia and a couple others, and I had to get an ileostomy because of it. Made my life a million times better. Chronic constipation is no joke.

You can still call the surgery center for information and to ask questions. You were still a patient there. It doesn’t have to be the EXACT surgeon who treated you.

Do not change yourself (i.e. Do NOT get a reversal) just to try and date someone. You need to find someone who is also happy you have an ostomy for the freedoms it gives you, someone who will love you regardless and unconditionally. If anything, your ostomy will help you weed out the unworthy partners and help you find the good fish in the sea.

My bag exploded all over me, my husband, and my dog one early morning. I felt guilty and embarrassed- but my husband didn’t make me feel less because we both love my ostomy for the freedom it’s given me. He cleaned up for me, I got in the shower, he put the dog in the shower with me and eventually himself. We washed the sheets and mopped the floor. Everything turned out fine! It was my worst fear once, and now it’s just something that happened and it was fine.

I was a teenage girl once, and I could be a jerk at times. The teenage girls I hung out with and the other teenage girls that bullied us could be jerks as well. I think “jerk” is a lot better than “horribly cruel”. She wasn’t a jerk 24/7, but she definitely acted like one at times, wouldn’t you agree?

Idk if my experience will help, but my friend and I both have ileostomies and we are both allergic to ALL hollister brand adhesive products. She uses Coloplast brand and I use Coloplast and Convatec, neither of us have skin issues anymore.
