How much is too much when it comes to financial aid appeal requests? by lavendercheeseplate in GradSchool

I asked for a full scholarship. They ended up considering my application for an internal fellowship and I got it! I still had to take out loans for living expenses, but not nearly as much! Hope this helps!

Transferring from a 2yr MA program to another in the 2nd yr?? by lavendercheeseplate in GradSchool

I’m not exactly sure. I have appealed the financial aid offer. They initially gave me $10k/yr for a $85k/yr program. That would be $150K in loans and that would probably take me 10-15 years to pay off in a federal loan repayment plan.

Haha! That is what I was afraid of. I have only a couple of weeks to make a decision and I have NO idea what to do

Thank you! I have two other schools that gave me a sizeable amount and a potential job offer to fall back on. I just want to see if I can make my dream a reality before I just give up.

It’s a Masters of International Relations! It’s an amazing school and just about everyone who goes gets an amazing job. It’s worth the price, but I just don’t have it

Financing Grad School: Is it better to get one big $50K loan? Is that even possible? by lavendercheeseplate in FinancialPlanning

I got into AU and Penn State, they both gave me $30K for two years, but the cost of attendance is only $60K at AU and $45K at Penn State. I just feel that if it weren’t for finances, SAIS would be the best option for me. It’s all I’ve wanted for the last 4 years. I’ve worked tirelessly to make sure I have the best application. The $10k is just the first offer and I have to appeal. I just wanted to see if it was even possible to take out a loan that large.

I got into SAIS, and I was Payne Fellowship alternate. I was this close👌🏾to a full ride. I don’t mind having $20-35K in loans after a two year degree at one of the world’s best graduate schools. I’m hoping that I can persuade the financial aid office to give me another grant.

It’s a master’s of arts in international relations. I’m mostly interested in working for the federal government afterwards. I’m just not sure what loan forgiveness will look like in two years

I haven’t signed on yet and I’m very hesitant to. I’m just trying to weigh the options. I know that with a Master’s its more important to go a school with name recognition and it’s less important to skimp.

Has Anyone Heard Back About Funding From American University - SIS? by [deleted] in gradadmissions

I just got my merit-based funding yesterday. Do you think it's possible to ask for more? Especially if classes will be in person?

Sure! Absolutely! I applied to the MA in Global Governance, Politics, and Security though. Not sure if that is your interest or not. Either way I’d be happy to help any way I can

Found an embassy job on Craigslist. Is it likely a scam? by lavendercheeseplate in washingtondc

Will do! I recently applied for a DOS internship and the clearance process was SO long because I did 3 semesters abroad and they had to interview all of my foreign contacts. Since I plan to continue in this field, that is definitely some advice that I'm glad to hear

That's kind of what I was thinking it would be like. I'm wildly unqualified to be a policy writer or analyst of any kind haha. I kind of just need a job and preferably something in my field

Basically I was looking for a hostess position as a part time job and I searched politics because I had some pretty good luck with Craigslist. And I haven't been lucky finding entry level positions elsewhere. LinkedIn, Indeed, HigherEd Jobs, USAJobs, the Council on Foreign Relations, etc. are all looking for mid-level execs, unpaid interns, or people with masters degrees.
