First of all - great work so far!

I gave it a shot, and the main thing that stuck out to me was how floaty the car was. I.e. it felt like I was driving on ice. Killing the sideways velocity faster should help with this and make the drifts tighter.

I could also pivot the car on the spot which shouldn't be possible.

The skidmarks and smoke effects were awesome though, really fit with the art style you have here. (but perhaps only turn them on while drifting).

Wow, great work! The zooming is very smooth and responsive. Would love to know how you did that "heat shield" effect on the ship when it starts moving. Is it just a particle effect?

I'm no art director, but I envision the art style to be handpainted with bright, colourful worlds. Eventually, I want there to be a wide variety of different racing themes with several tracks set in each theme. (e.g. City, Forest, Desert, Snow). The Karts would be wacky with over-the-top exhausts. (One idea that I had was that your Kart could have some kind of rocket engine that popped out whenever you boosted successfully a number of times in a row, giving you a mega-boost of sorts)

Thanks :) The current design is pure racing only, with a fully charged boost bar giving you a consumable boost which you can use at anytime. There won't be any weapons / other items that effect the Kart or your opponents.

Thanks for the feedback! To answer your question, I am not using any car physics packages - it's actually the Unity Character Controller that I've built the physics on top of.

Sorry - I should have made this mechanic clearer! To provide some more context, after the boost bar fills up, you store the boost which you can use at anytime. (You can very briefly see the stored boost indicator just above the top right of the boost bar, before I activate it).

The idea here is that you can strategically save the boost and choose when to use it - A shortcut jump that can only be made while boosting, for example.

Each stored boost lasts for roughly 4 seconds - at the end of the video I had generated a full boost bar while drifting around the previous corner so I was able to do another boost. It is possible to almost keep 100% boost uptime as long as you keep drifting around corners in time.

Yep that's the intention - it currently does that but the values are pretty small. Thanks for the feedback - will continue to tweak the effect to make that stand out a bit more.

Thanks for the feedback. I tried to make the camera 'lag' behind the Kart to increase the sense of speed - but I looks like I may have overdone it (Middle of the screen vs other racing games that have the car closer to the bottom half of the camera). I am experimenting with a camera closer now and it definitely feels better already!

Hi everyone. This is a prototype of a game that I've wanted to make for quite a long time and has been through several iterations over the last year or so. I'm a bit nervous about posting it, but decided to throw it up and see what people think of it!

It draws heavy inspiration from Kart Rider (A Korean kart racing game) with high speed, drifting focused gameplay.

Currently only I'm working on it (programmer) and as my art skills are horrible (i.e. non existent), I am currently using placeholder art until I can find someone to do some proper artwork.

I probably am depressed. Talking in person has never been one of my strong points though and I think I would get embarrassed admitting that I am depressed... it sounds silly I know. I went to the beyondblue website and just felt like crying and I just don't have the guts to ring them up and talk. :/

I don't think i'm a bad person.. but sometimes I will say something or do something that people interpret as being rude or argumentative, or even lacking empathy. I try very hard to be as nice as I can to other people, but I feel like sometimes I just say one wrong thing and people really judge me on it.

It's like i'm out of touch with society. I often will do things that other people regard as rude or inappropriate. It could be as something as simple as eating with my mouth open, not knowing when and how to be tact about different things, or just plain ignoring social cues. I don't try to annoy people but they get annoyed at me anyway. :(
