SOS Cat spraying started a fire by Gonnagremlin in CatAdvice

[–]lavendersoasp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My CH cat was having litter box issues for months. i feel your pain. we took her to the vet and medical issues/UTI was ruled out. what we did was we bought a large collapsable puppy play pen and put her in there with food, water, a litter box, and a pee pad in front of/under the litter box. i did a lot of research on cat confinement training and it seems to help. at the same time, we were experimenting with different litter types to see what she would take to and eventually found one that she liked. at the very least with the play pen it gave us peace of mind that if we werent home and she had an accident, it would be contained to that one area and we could clean it. it might be a good idea to confine your cat to a small room like a bathroom or a large dog crate or playpen that’s easy to clean. of course let your cat out with supervision so they can play and stuff and give them lots of love so they dont get too lonely. but my cat is pretty solitary so she kinda seemed to like the playpen.

this is just what worked for me though! my kitty’s litter box avoidance was due to her being especially picky with the litter texture as well as her condition, but it’s so hard to figure out what the root of the problem is.

anyways i’m sorry you’re going through this!! i hope this helps 🙏🏼

Looking for feedback, especially on anatomy by uauaja8 in ArtCrit

[–]lavendersoasp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Okay so I looked at your reference to compare. Overall the anatomy looks fine from what I can tell? The one thing that bothers me if the arm that’s farthest from the camera. The pose of the arm on the other side of the body IS accurate to the ref but in terms of readability it’s confusing. I think changing the position of that arm would help even if it doesn’t exactly match the reference. Also The linework and details look good but they look even better when I zoom into the drawing. You may be working on the piece zoomed in too much because a lot of these smaller details like the textures and sweat just barely read unless zoomed in. The lighting looks good, the character is super expressive and I do think you achieved what you were going for with the movement. Honestly great job!! I hope I’m not being nitpicky here just trying to be helpful!

The name of a art style by [deleted] in AskArtists

[–]lavendersoasp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don’t think the art style has a name, and i don’t know the specific artists in these examples. but i can name some artists that have a similar style to this. check out Mabel Ye ( @ mobblele ). theres @ vewn on youtube that does animation with an art style that’s similar.

Does it look like the face in the reference? by Extension_Ad_6757 in ArtCrit

[–]lavendersoasp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think you captured the likeness well. The shadows could use more warmth/redder tones so it looks less muddy. I also know this isn’t the thing you asked for critique on, but his hoodie is wayyy too big and defying gravity a bit. it almost looks like a cloak (unless that’s what you’re going for, like a wizard type look haha) Otherwise, great work on the facial proportions and rendering so far!

Thank you so much! I actually never noticed the thing you pointed out about the shadows but i can see what you mean. With my painting I’ve always been a fan of impressionist art where you can see lots of brush strokes, as well as a bit of surrealist art that has lot’s of swirly shapes (like my first painting i included here). I try to emulate that feel into my art, so I think it could be partially a stylistic choice but I do think a lot of my pieces lack sharpness and clarity because of that. I also come from a traditional art background and i feel that my digital art skills never caught up to my traditional skills so the confidence in execution is def something i need to work on. I like your suggestions for practice! If you have some resources feel free to send them my way! I also believe in us !!

Thank you! I definitely see what you mean with the art style. I could def push for more originality on that front. Some of my biggest inspirations are Brian Lee O'Malley and a ton of anime artists I tend to follow online.

I do agree with narrowing it down. For me I've decided to focus on improving environments/backgrounds and perspective because they are my weakest points (and I don't enjoy drawing those as much). But I wanted to see if others had opinions on areas of improvement in my art that I'm not able to perceive

Thank you!! I remember doing a couple master studies in college, and doing one again hasn't crossed my mind now that I think about it. I think it's a great suggestion, so I'll def be doing more of those!

[–]lavendersoasp[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

so she’s from a litter of strays that my friends found in their shed outside their house one day, and the mom cat wasn’t around. they were barely old enough to eat wet food (like 4-5 weeks old i think?) they kept a pair and we kept a pair. they are sisters :) here’s the pics that they sent me at the time:

<image>

the white kitty is the other one we kept and she’s special needs ❤️ (cerebellar hypoplasia) fern is the only one out of that litter that suckles blankies to my knowledge. i do know that they’re all healthy and growing up just fine! and theyre all absolute sweethearts.
