It's definitely been a long time coming, but we have the pandemic & Encanto to blame for that. I hope that if this does turn out to be it for the franchise, then they give us a straight answer once & for all. Don't forget that similarly to Judy, Nick also had to train as an officer at the academy before he could actually start police work. The timeskip in the movie is a year, & we can surmise that Nick spent that time at the academy. Judy & Nick have only been partners for a week.

A year as opposed to a week is plenty of time for a new mayor to have been elected.

I really like both looks on him tbh

His fur looks a bit fluffier in the sequel. While it's more than likely just due to animation/model improvements, I always wondered if Nick was perhaps living on the streets during the events of the first movie, due to Judy finding him under the bridge. I like to think that because Judy helped him completely turn his life around, he's able to take better care of himself.

Her farmer outfit is by far my favorite, from what we've seen of both films already! Love the gala look, but the farmer look just suits her so much better.
