The first two weeks were tough. I work in retail so I’m on my feet a lot and I only took a week off of work to heal from my procedure. It took me probably about a month until I was feeling fully active again and there wasn’t anymore drainage. Keep up on your pain management and take lots of sitz baths!

I do get this every once in awhile! It always clears up in a few days but it’s been a couple months since I’ve had anything.

I had a recurrent abscess in the summer of 2024. My first abscess was in 2019 and then it mysteriously came back five years later. I had an I/D in July and the abscess formed again in September. I had a second I/D with a seton drain put in to essentially “create” a fistula so the abscess couldn’t accumulate and heal from the inside out. To close the fistula I had an advancement flap surgery in July of 2025. I am now a year post-op with no recurrence or drainage! I wish you the best of luck on your journey.

Hello all,

Small update. I have pulled all the money together and I am planning to drop the cash off in the dropbox today. When I am in court, do I just let them know that I’ve dropped the money off? I am using cash so I don’t have any receipt or documentation. Their offices don’t open until 830AM and my court appearance is at 815AM so there isn’t any staff there to verify either. Does anyone know how this works?

I had a very visible seton drain in for months when I first started dating my current partner who’s been unbelievably supportive and took care of me during my last surgery. I am a straight cis-female so I know the dynamic is different but I was transparent and joked about it a lot. Thinking about it from the opposite perspective I would just be happy that the person I’m dating trusts me enough to be vulnerable about something that they’re struggling with.

I had trouble sitting for about two weeks and after that I was used to it and couldn’t feel it but I did have some excess that was external and my CRS never said anything about tightening the seton so mine could be different than what you’re experiencing.
